As EVERYONE here is aware, Davy Jones, aged 66, died yesterday of a Massive Heart Attack in Florida.
In light of this tragedy, what are some of your favorite Monkee memories? Mine are when I saw the show via MTV reruns. Besides the pilot, my favorite episode of The Monkees is the episode featuring Lon Chaney, Jr. (Monkees in a Ghost Town) My favorite all-time Monkees tune is Daydream Believer. |

Some of my very earliest memories are of the Monkees. I'm a 2nd generation fan, born in 1971. I really don't remember if I discovered the show or the music first, but I became a fan as a preschool age kid!. I do know that I loved the show as a young kid, and I used to play my mom's old Monkee albums all the time as well. I remember all the hysteria surrounding their 20th anniversary tour in 1986 very fondly, as well. I remember being very excited to see them live, which I did twice that year. I remember thinking it was pretty cool that so many of my friends and classmates got caught up in that second round of Monkee Mania, with MTV even running marathons of the show. I caught at least one show on every reunion tour that followed. Thankfully, this past summer I was able to attend two concerts on successive nights. I really can't think of many other acts that could become favorites of a 5 year old and continue to be favorites of that person at his 40th birthday and beyond. I think that's pretty cool.

I have two vivid memories. Seeing them on a color TV at Sears. (Color TVs were a big deal back then - only one person on my block had one.) And I remember when "Daydream Believer" came out. The first time I heard it I thought "WHAT IS THAT MARVELOUS SONG?!" - you know - when you hear something that is just fantastic. I still have fond feelings when I hear their songs today - esp. this one.

Coming home from Homecoming in '67 or '68 with my date, Jean, who was rather drowsy, and hearing Daydream Believer on the car radio.

I saw Davy twice at Epcot, and then was so happy when the 3 toured last summer. My husband, our 2 kids and myself drove 2 hours to see them and it was absolutely worth it!
