I've been watching all afternoon. I'm watching the Ernie Kovacs episode as of now. Lucy is one, pushy lady. LOL. It's a shame Hallmark couldn't air the show in the same way that Nick at nite did originally with the actual opening and closing credits intact.

I know they were released a while back after I love lucy's season six release. I am enjoying these episodes. It was smart for Lucy and Desi to do an average of three specials each season after the show ended.

Hallmark is reairing the first episode. Ann Southern is guest starring on this one. She is reprising her character Susie Mcnamara from "Susie"/"Private Secretary". I remember watching that show on Nick at Nite in the late 80's. Nick at Nite would air Susie and after they finished running through the episodes, they would air "The Ann Southern Show". I liked Ann Southern. She was classy, sexy, sassy and sohpisticated. I loved her style.

I watched the marathon all day and its pretty good. There very well written and having the Comedy Hour be an hour is fine. It wasnt like the shows dragged on or should have been 30 mins. like "I Love Lucy".

I have to ask, during the Comedy Hour run, weren't Lucy and Desi divorced? I thought I heard that they were divorced or getting divorced although I could be wrong.

They didn't get divorced until 1960, the same year that the last comedy hour aired.

It was nice seeing some of this today. But why didn't it keep the I Love Lucy title originally? Other than the different title it's the same show, just episodes that haven't aired as much.

When they sold the rights to the 180 half-hour shows to CBS in 1957, Lucy and Desi were legally prevented from calling whatever they did I Love Lucy even though what they did was exactly I Love Lucy with an expanded format.

Other than a random chance to catch the first one as a We Love Lucy episode circa 1990, my first exposure to these specials was on Nick @ Nite in--what was it, 1994 I think? I recognized it as a rare opportunity at the time and endeavored to archive them all on VHS, but I confess I grew very weary of them before I could finish the project, so substandard are they when compared to the original series. It was mentioned by at least one critic during the three years of specials that the emphasis on guest stars was a misplaced priority, that they ought to concentrate on putting together a good story, then hire guest stars as (read: if) needed. Good advice unheeded, as in some of the shows the guest star enters their lives and interacts with them about as realistically as in a New Scooby-Doo Movie.

They also did less and less filming in front of an audience, an unfortunate sacrifice to either logistics or on-set turmoil, perhaps a combination of both. For the record, Lucy filed for divorce the day after filming wrapped for the last one, 'Lucy Meets The Moustache' (why the hell is spell check flagging "moustache" and not "mustache" [sic]?), which aired while their divorce was still pending (not final) on April Fools Day of 1960.

According to several books, the Lucy/Desi Comedy Hour was a terrible place to work. Lucy and Desi were not speaking to each other for most of the shows, and screaming matches were common. The last episode with Ernie Kovacs was the worst. According to Edie Adams (Mrs. Kovacs), Lucy broke down in tears many times through the filming, especially when she (Edie) sang a love song in the show.

I have mixed feelings about the show. Some were too far-fetched, but many were excellent. The Danny Thomas episode is one of my all-time Lucy favorites.
