Default Sitcoms on DVD

The Simpsons - Season one is on the shelves. Season two should be available in May.

All In The Family - The complete first season is coming to DVD in March

Friends - There are four volumes of "best of" discs out now. The complete first season will be available in May. I believe seasons one through seven are already out on the other side of the big pond, though.

M*A*S*H - The complete first season is now available with the complete second season following in May. "M*A*S*H," the movie is also available.

Sex And The City - Watch four women bash men in this estrogen-filled, future Lifetime-rerun fodder.

South Park - Rhino used to release them in order, but ever since Warner took the steer, they've been releasing "best-ofs." Too bad. I'd still like to see season-by-season box sets. "South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut" is available in a bare-bones disc from Paramount.

Non-sitcoms:

Mr. Show - Bob Odenkirk and David Cross' brilliant HBO sketch comedy show will be available soon.

Twin Peaks - It's been a long time coming for David Lynch's tragically short-lived series. The theatrical prequel to the series, "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me" is also available.

The X-Files - The truth is out there, as are seasons one through four. So is the "X-Files: Fight The Future" theatrical movie. I hear there's a special edition of that on the way, though.

The Sporanos - The first and second season are available. This is a great set.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer - Season one.

It's my contention that when releasing television series on DVD, season-by-season box sets are the way to go. "Best ofs" or themed sets take a lot of continuity out of a show.

DVDs are great for television series, because once they leave network, it's likely that you'll never see them uncut on the air again. There will always be a few minutes cut out of the show in syndication or cable; a snip here, a snip there. With TV shows on DVD, you don't have to worry about commercial time taking away episode time.

Now here's my wishlist. These are series that deserve to be on DVD.

1. Cheers - I would buy all eleven volumes. Imagine, every uncut episode at your disposal.
2. Freaks And Geeks - I loved this show, but none of my friends have seen it. I want to show them what they missed.
3. Action! - This show didn't get a fair shake, but I'd gladly buy every episode of it.
4. Seinfeld - I want to see it all. Syndication takes away so much.
5. 24 - I'm sure this will happen, though. This show is practically MADE for DVD.

I think that Colombia House has released all the "I Love Lucy" episodes on DVD.

This is my personal wish list:

1) "Three's Company"-My friend on the boards, fizzyrocks, has bought some of the tapes off threescompany.com. DLT has said they'll be releasing all the episodes on tape this year, and that they might all be on DVD by 2003.

2) "Laverne & ShirleY"-This hasn't even been released on tape yet, and it's sister show "Mork & Mindy" has! Paramount really needs to release this, it's one of the few sitcoms that was #01 that hasn't been released on tape.

3) "Diff'rent Strokes"- I want to see more of the later seasons. Colombia House hasn't released any episodes past the 81-82 season on VHS, I'd like to see them put those on VHS & DVD.

4) "Rhoda"- FOX owns it anyway, and they were planning on putting it on a FOX Classic Network before the idea got scrapped.

And other shows lol

I would love to see Cheers on DVD. I tried to tape the series off of N@N, starting with the marathon in October. But N@N screwed me out of that with all their skipping. Plus, I hate edited versions with the short theme on every episode.

I'd also like to see NewsRadio on DVD. But I think it will take couple more years for the show to achieve enough popularity for a DVD release.
