Question Was Lucy's Reunion With William Frawley on 'The Lucy Show' TV’s Greatest Reunion?

In Season 4 of The Lucy Show, William Frawley channeled his curmudgeon once more for his last-ever on-camera performance as a gruff horse trainer. Lucy’s “You know, he reminds me of someone I used to know,” line is, of course, over-the-top self-aware, but in retrospect it only makes us teary eyed, given all we know about the tumultuous personal lives of these two actors.

This is cool but a little sad. William Frawley looks a little frail. But I love the grouchy way he says 'Okay' to Ann Sothern.

Well, its just so awesome they brought him in for that cameo, which would be his last television appearance. It seems so appropriate that his last appearance is with Lucy!

I liked Fred Mertz/William Frawley but I know there was a lot of tension with Lucy, Desi, William and Vivian. Its too bad that you have to hear about all the tension because if you look at the 4 of them as a group, I dont think there were anybody better.

I havent seen The Lucy Show, Here's Lucy etc. in years but as good as Lucille Ball was, theres something missing without the other 3.

The only one William Frawley had a tense relationship with was Vivian Vance.

I think he was also talking about the tension between Lucy and Ricky.

I don't know of tension between Bill and Desi. At any rate, Desi Arnaz was a pall-bearer at William Frawley's funeral.

I used to always pretend she was the SAME Lucy from I Love Lucy, and that Ricky had died, Fred and Ethel divorced, Ethel changed her name to Viv, and Lucy and Ricky secretly had an older daughter we just NEVER saw lol

And THIS futher feeds my fantasy hehe

Did Lucy like Bill Frawley? I know Desi & Bill had a close relationship. Des even writes a nice tribute to his old pal after his death in I think Variety.

I liked the onscreen relationship with Desi, Lucy, and the Mertz. Took awhile for me to like Lucy on her own. I don't know just that feeling.

Funny, I used to have that same fantasy, as if there were a missing episode that explained it all. Adding to this, there was an early reference in the series to when Viv first became Lucy's tenant. They stated that it had been five years earlier. Going back five years in time from that point, puts it right about the point where the Mertz's became the Ricardos' tenants in Westport, Connecticut (which seems to be a hop, skip and a jump from Danfield, NY). How convenient.

A better line would be Frawley (as the horse trainer) carrying a bucket of horse manure asking Lucy "Where is your best friend Viv, I have a present for her!"

Heart "I've loved Lucy ever since she was a star-struck kid at RKO."

I'm not sure how much Lucy loved William Frawley, but Frawley really liked Lucy. The title of this post, taken from Bart Andrews' book, reveals something about the relationship between him and her: "I loved her ever since she was a star-struck kid at RKO." And, he added, "I got along all right with Desi, too."

In fact, Andrews wrote, Desi took out a full-page ad in The Hollywood Reporter showing a picture of Frawley, his birth and death dates, and, in Spanish, "Buenas noches, amigo" ("Good night, friend.")
