Shirley Booth is "cleaning up" on DVD with the return of the classic TV series Hazel! After a long wait (over five years to be exact), Shout! Factory has picked up the rights to the classic series about the housekeeper who has a command over the house in a four disc set, containing all 32 episodes from the 1962-1963 of the season. The season also transitions to color this season (although there was a promotional episode in the first season that was broadcast in color).
The series, based upon a series of original cartoons in The Saturday Evening Post, is about a maid who runs the household for George and Dorothy Baxter (Done DeFore and Whitney Blake), and their son Harold (Bobby Buntrock). The series focuses on the family type relationship that Hazel has with her employer, with often results in battles between Hazel and her boss. But in the end, Hazel is usually the one that is right and always wins. TJ, can you tell us if they at least included the original Screen Gems dancing sticks logo at the close of each episode? I really hope they did.
Also, it would have been nice if they had included a couple of the Ford car commercials, the shows main sponsor and the reason this season was shot in color! |

Leslie, thank you. I didn't know that the dancing sticks didn't appear until '63-'64. I really like that logo. I do hope that Shout! Factory will include it on the Season 3 dvd that has just been announced for release this May.

If 15 seconds might be missing from an episode, I think I can live with that. I will order this soon. Thanks for the review, and thanks to Shout Factory for putting this DVD out. They were smart to announce the 3rd season already, I think that's their way to let fans know they don't plan to abandon the series like Sony did.

The best news I read from that review was that these are uncut 25 min. versions of the show!! I was hoping that this would be the case, but as in the case of "Real McCoys" you never can be sure. This will be the first time in 45 years that I've seen 25" versions of all of Hazel. This is a day to celebrate, pass the brownies, Mr. Griffin only gets one, he's about to "bust his boiler".
