Default How in the world did this show have better ratings than..

The Jeffersons, Maude, What's Happening, and Good Times????

I was looking through my book tonight and after Carter's Country 1st season, the show finished at #29

While the other shows after that season finished

What's Happening...#44
Good Times...........#53
Jeffersons.............#56
Maude..................#78

What the hell was so interesting about this show in the 1977-78 season?-lol I seen one episode and don't remember being impressed at all

Easy: Carter Country spent the entire season after Barney Miller. It would have to be downright bad not to get a halfway decent rating with a cushy timeslot like that.

The Jeffersons never did well on Saturdays after All In The Family was moved and in 1977-78 spent part of the season withering against The Love Boat, a breakout hit.

Maude likewise gasped its last breath on Saturday against Love Boat after the cancellation of its last Monday night companion, the ill-fated Betty White Show.

What's Happening was removed from its hit Thursday slot at midseason to prop up Operation Petticoat on ABC's (now here's a coincidence) Saturday night schedule. Its ratings suffered as a result of the move, though one article of the time (early 78) handicapping the chances of certain shows' renewal indicated that it was beating The Bob Newhart Show at 8.

Good Times...was starting to stink by then and its ratings simply reflect that. Carter Country was a better show than Good Times had gotten to be at that point.

I still figured a Parentless Good Times was more watchable than Carter Country. Maybe because the show was new and had a link to President Jimmy carter

I have no idea because I do not remember this show for the life of me, but people I have chatted with say this show wasn't half bad.

It wasn't. The women on the show were given short shrift.

Exactly. She was not a main focus as she was a classmate. I liked her, though and would have like to have seen more of her.

Carter Country airing after Barney would explain why the show did well. The parent show was a great lead in.

You mean the LEAD IN show, Carter Country wasn't a spinoff of Barney Miller

LOL

Ooops! You are correct about that but my point is that a popluar show would the lead in. My mistake about that parent show thing. I was thinking about "Fish" just now which is why I posted that by mistake.
