I recently came across a thread on Shout! Factory's website concerning creamy splotches on certain dvds, specifically on the season 1 set of Hazel. I purchased this set in August 2006 and also noticed this on my set. In the intervening years the discs have played flawlessly on a wide range of dvd and blu-ray players. Doing a little research, I learned that the laser picks up the encoded information from deep within the disc, past the slightly clouded outer layer. I believe that unless there is something that obstructs the beam's reading of this layer, such as a deep scratch or dark smudge, the discs in question should play fine. I hope this clears up some concerns I have read as regard to the playability of these discs.

After reading this thread and a similar one on another forum, I looked at the backs of all my season 2 discs last night and every one of them is perfectly clear with no smudges or cloudy spots. Actually, the only DVDs where I noticed a large amount of cloudy spots was on one of the seasons of "I Dream of Jeannie". However, these smudges did not affect the playing of the episodes at all.
