Movie Reviews: Journey 2: The Mysterious Island
There’s not much point in approaching Journey 2: The Mysterious Island as serious cinema fare. It’s one of those “lost island” tales with volcanoes threatening to erupt, prehistoric creatures on the loose, and pristine jungles with nary a dead leaf to spoil the green. Roger Ebert remarks in the Chicago Sun-Times that “it is transcendently goofy.” Roger Ebert remarks tongue in cheek no doubt, “I hope you understand I enjoyed most of this stuff. It isn’t a ‘good’ movie in the usual sense (or most senses), but it is jolly and good-natured.” Ebert’s fellow Chicagoan, Michael Phillips of the Tribune, is not so softhearted. “It’s only disguised as fun,” he writes. (He also doesn’t much like the 3D cartoon that precedes the movie, Daffy’s Rhapsody, calling it “Grating and pushy.”) Neil Genzlinger, in a brief 230-word summary, doesn’t even attempt to critique it. He sums up, “The movie makes no effort to do anything other than what is expected, and it succeeds at that.” -IMDB News |
