Cool Interesting Tidbits about Alan Thicke

On March 1, 1947, Alan Jeffrey was born in Kirkland Lake, Canada.

After his biological father, Bill, left the family during his infancy (they would be divorced in 1953), his mother, Mary, rekindled an old flame with flight physician Dr. Brian Thicke, who would eventually give young Alan a little brother in Todd Thicke (now a writer for the hit TV game show Americas Funniest Home Videos, on the air from November 26, 1989 - August 28, 1999 and again since July 20, 2011, now in its 22nd combined season) and eventually adopt Alan as his own son, thus Alan changing his name legally to Alan Jeffrey Thicke.

During the 1970s, 27-year-old Alan immigrated to America in the hopes of becoming a successful songwriter/musician, but instead wrote theme songs to 1970s sitcoms such as Diffrent Strokes and The Facts of Life.

In 1969, Alan married aspiring singer Gloria Loring, who gave him 2 sons, Brennan & Robin (the younger now a successful musician in his own right).

In 1984, after the cancellation of the talk show Thicke of the Night, Alans marriage to Gloria ALSO was canceled after 15 years of marriage.

In March 1985, weeks after turning 38, Alan auditioned for the part of Dr. Jason Seaver, the patriarch of the Seaver clan, on a sitcom pilot called Growing Pains; soon afterwards, Alan fell in love with his TV wife, 32-year-old Joanna DeVarona (also going through a rough divorce from her 1st marriage to Richard Kerns, with whom she had a daughter, Ashley).

Despite the mutual attraction, in the end, Alan & Joanna mutually chose NOT to date each other & strictly have a professional relationship.

After GP ceased production (as well as during its original network run), Alan began a 3rd career as a game show host, hosting such game shows as Animal Crack-Ups (created by Vin Di Bona) and a short-lived game show adaptation of the board game Pictionary (an episode of which featured panelist Erik Estrada accidentally punching Bill Maher in the nose).

Alan also appeared as a celebrity contestant on other game shows, including Win, Lose or Draw.

In the mid-1990s, after a brief romance with Kristy Swanson ended, Alan began a relationship with former Miss USA Gina Tolleson, which eventually led to marriage & a 3rd son, Carter William Thicke; that marriage would end in divorce by the year 2000.

In 2006, Alan rebounded romantically by marrying Tanya Callau, while riding on the joys of his son Robins successful music career.
