I heard that Bob is missing in 3 or 4 episodes and I can't imagine a episode without him in it. Who did they focus on? Emily? Please don't say Howard?
BTW: season 6 is scheduled to start on Hallmark on Feb 10th |

It moved around, if I recall. Sometimes Emily, sometimes Jerry, once or twice Howard, but also Bob's patients (Carlin and Peterson).
We're in the middle of Season 4 on Hallmark right now...the Moo-Goo-Gai-Pan episode just ran, if I believe. (I record them and am trying to catch up every weekend.) Season 5 is coming up within the next week or so. Donna |

Bob being missing for a few eps sort of rings a bell, but does anyone recall what the reason was?

Just researched it, and the reason Bob missed those episodes was that his wife was having a baby.

Where is your source? Because unless you can provide a source your statement means nothing |

LOL ... I didn't know I needed to provide a bibliography. But, yes, technically "researched it" wasn't the proper terminology. I "Googled" it.
But upon further Googling, Bob's daughter Courtney was born Dec. 2, 1977, so it seems to make sense. And I also came across this, although it's not from any official source: As a condition of his return to the series's final year, Newhart's sixth-season contract allowed him to sit out five of the final twenty-two shows. What better reason to sit out an episode or two than to welcome your beautiful baby girl to the world? Anyway, none of this is official, but it does seem plausible timeline-wise. If anybody has certified information, I'd love to read it. |

You could have save "It could have been" but don't post information as FACT without a source. I take this very seriously when it comes to TV shows |

You seem to be a fan of TV facts, but facts only.
On boards like these, I'm more of a "that kinda makes sense" guy. But I can appreciate your relentless quest for the truth. From now on, if I comment on a thread that you've contributed to, I'll try to provide sources, and you can judge the merits of the statement based on that. But I'm pretty sure nobody was taking my statement as the gospel, either! |

I didn't comment earlier -- but Bob's autobiography gives Courtney's birth as the reason he wanted to sit out the episodes. He also stated that he thought 5 seasons was plenty. (I'm not sure if I read THAT in his autobiography or in Joey Green's HI BOB! book, though.)

I'm watching Season 6 for the first time on Hallmark. I'm sure the episodes where Bob is missing will air soon? It seems strange to think that a show that revolves around Bob would have episodes without him.

Those are the 4 episodes I;m interested in seeing the most. One of them airs tonight at 3:30am..."Grizzly Emily" One airs tomorrow at 3am..."Emily Carlin, Emily Carlin" One airs on Friday at 2am...."It Didn't happen One Night" The other episode without Bob, "Girl in her Twenties" looks like it will be skipped because I don't see it on the schedule. Plus Hallmark will be airing season 1 again starting on Tuesday. |
