ROKU - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I'm considering getting Netflix streamed. I called, and the rep recommended ROKU. I don't know the first thing about it. From the little reading I did on Roku, it appears I may be able to cut down my cable bill somewhat. We pay for sport shows, etc.

I am concerned about Netflix's choice of movies and tv. I was told it doesn't have the new releases, so I'm wondering if I want to even get the Roku device. Does anyone know of any cheaper devices? I'm confused all over the place.

I thought about getting ROKU when I made the decision to give up cable last summer, but ended up not doing it. I have Netflix and HULU streaming on my blu-ray player. I think it is a little more convenient because I can watch DVDs/Blu-Rays and my streaming content all with one device.

I do like Netflix streaming though for watching TV shows online because they have a pretty good selection(of shows I enjoy anyway.) It's not as good for movies in my opinion because like you said they don't have new releases, so I get those from the Redbox.

I second what Zelda said. I have Netflix streaming on my PS3, and it's great for watching TV shows (it's how my wife and I got into Louie), but not so hot for new release movies. We're probably going to switch back to DVDs/Blu-rays next month.

Janice, I know how much you like to watch new releases, so until they start streaming them, you should stick with DVDs. Unless a movie did poorly in the box office, it usually doesn't show up on Netflix Instant for 2-3 years.

I guess I'll wait. We do get a lot from our cable. Not sure if we'll be activate Netflix again. With baseball season around the corner, it wouldn't make sense. You're right Brad, I do need new releases. I can't imagine waiting for Sleepless in Seattle, lol.
