Leno Sued Over Joke That Offended Sikhs
By DAVE ITZKOFF

Lee Celano/Associated Press
Jay Leno, the host of “The Tonight Show.”
Just when it seemed that the world was ready to move on from a poorly received “Tonight Show” joke that offended Sikhs – and, perhaps, onto President Obama’s poorly received “spilled milk” joke from Tuesday’s State of the Union address – a man has filed a suit against Jay Leno, the “Tonight Show” host, for what he says are “racist” remarks.

Last Thursday Mr. Leno’s “Tonight Show” monologue included a taped segment about the homes of the Republican presidential hopefuls. When Mitt Romney’s summer house on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire was announced the screen instead showed the Golden Temple in Amritsar, India, a holy shrine to Sikhs and to followers of other Indian faiths.

Vayalar Ravi, India’s Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs, said that the joke was “quite unfortunate and quite objectionable” and that he would raise the issue with the United States State Department. But Victoria Nuland, a spokeswoman for the State Department, said “The Tonight Show” bit was free speech protected by the United States Constitution and “satirical in nature.”

Now BBC News reports that Randeep Dhillon, an Indian-American, has filed a lawsuit against Mr. Leno in Los Angeles County Superior Court, saying that the routine “hurt the sentiments of all Sikh people in addition to the plaintiff.” The lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages, says the joke “clearly exposes plaintiff, other Sikhs and their religion to hatred, contempt, ridicule and obloquy because it falsely portrays the holiest place in the Sikh religion as a vacation resort owned by a non-Sikh.”

Mr. Leno and his “Tonight Show” representatives have not commented on the affair.

BC Legal Drama: Jimmy Fallon Sued For Bias Against Male Employees

by Chris Pursell | January 24, 2012 at 10:27 PM | Celebrities, TV News

Jimmy Fallon (NBC)
Another NBC host is looking for a late-night lawyer.

Jimmy Fallon is being sued by his former stage manager, Paul Tarascio, who claims that Fallon showed “gender bias” and favoritism toward women in the workplace, according to TMZ. The suit stems from Tarascio’s demotion, after which he was fired and replaced by a “less qualified woman” who didn’t know how to do the job.

NBC is also being sued for gender bias from the incident.

Tarascio had his run with the “Late Night” show end in 2010. He alleges that “other male staffers, such as audio technicians and a Prop-Master were also replaced by women at Jimmy’s request.”

Earlier today, reports broke that fellow NBC late-night host Jay Leno is also being sued for a crack about Mitt Romney using the the Golden Temple in Amritsar, India as a vacation home. Leno is now being sued for promoting “hatred” toward the Sikh religion with the joke.

This is getting bad when late night comedians cannot even make a political joke anymore without getting sued. Ugh.
