'24' Movie Update: Kiefer Sutherland Says It Won't Be In Real Time

As "24" fans know, Jack Bauer is on standby, waiting to get back in action. Actor Kiefer Sutherland stopped by "Jimmy Kimmel Live" (weeknights, 12 a.m. EST on ABC) and much to the crowd's delight he discussed the big "24" movie plans.

Sutherland, who is currently starring in Fox's "Touch" (special preview Wed., Jan. 25 at 9 p.m. EST on Fox, before it officially premieres Mon., March 19, 9 p.m. EST), told Kimmel production is slated to begin mid-April. At the Television Critics Association press tour, Sutherland revealed about 6 months of time will have passed in Jack Bauer's life between the "24" series finale and the upcoming movie.

Hardcore fans of "24" may want to sit down for this little nugget of info: the movie will not follow the show's minute-by-minute time format.

"No, it's actually -- for us it's a great break because we will not do it in real time" Sutherland told Kimmel. "The two-hour film will be a representation of a 24-hour day, which gives us -- all of a sudden Jack Bauer can get on a plane and you don't have to sit with him for the whole ride."

And without the network and FCC restrictions of TV, expect a bit of a potty mouth on Jack Bauer. "I think he'll probably only swear once, that's where we're at in the script now, but it's certainly 100 percent more than he ever got to do before," Sutherland said.
