Default Observations, Seasons 1-5 Were Amazing, & Made the Show Great!

I have grown up loving and watching this show for years. It never gets old, and I can watch the same episodes over and over and they are fresh as ever. Barney Fife (Don Knotts) really made this show great. When he left after season 5, and the show went to color, it was like a totally different show. It was painful to watch. The void Barney left was huge. Andy seemed grumpy, Helen got even more shrewish and annoying. The show got BORING!! I don't even watch the color shows. None of the loveable characters were there anymore, all we had were that BORE Howard Sprague (YUCK) and Emmett (YAWN). The show simply should have STOPPED after season 5. But I only watch seasons 1-5 anyways, so no harm done! To me, the show only had five seasons, which were pretty amazing!

If I had to name my top five episodes, they would be as follows:

1.) Barney & The Choir
2.) The Haunted House
3.) Barney's First Car
4.) The Pickle Story
5.) Hot Rod Otis

*Honorable Mention*: The Fun Girls

And My Worst Episode Picks: ALL of the color episodes which I don't even watch.

Even the color shows where Barney made a brief return I don't watch, because it makes me sad that he even left to begin with!

Agreed...the "extra Barney episodes were ok...but I didn't care for them because I knew they wouldn't be followed up.

My best FIVE (in no particular order):

- the sinking boat (Andy gets the crook)
- Aunt B's Kerosene Cucumbers
- Opies three wishes (Count Van Deleckies)
- Mayberry Band
- Barney is too small to be a deputy - and Andy figures it out with a heavy chain.
