Default The Contest

What was the deal with this episode? They got 2 pairings wrong-the Professor and Mary Ann(?) The Skipper and Ginger(??????). It seems the Skipper should have been the judge. The fact that Gilligan was the judge led me to believe Gilligan was not interested in women...

"Beauty Is As Beauty Does"?

From a writing POV, since Gilligan's the main character, Gilligan has to be the one with the deciding vote b/c that makes the episode about him. Also, he's the only man who wouldn't think about it logically, so it makes sense that he'd end up with the deciding vote. Also, it'd be funnier if it were him.

He doesn't want to pick one of them b/c he doesn't want the other two to feel bad. He loves them all for very different reasons. He's just a decent guy.

Just b/c one of the guys supports one of the women doesn't make it romantic of a pairing/shipping issue.

I think they got it right. If Gilligan had paired off with Mary Ann I doubt he would have come up with the isometric swimming technique the Professor uses on Mary Ann and we'd have been denied her costume malfunction.

Yes, sorry about that, I was thinking of Seinfeld for some reason.

ph1l wins

Also, we'd have been denied the epicness of the Professor sabotaging Ginger's chances. Lol- what? The pairings were all over the place here!

Okay, question-

Gilligan didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings so he picked Gladys the monkey, explaining that she was the rightful winner because she was actually born on the island. But the contest was called Miss Castaway, and Gladys was not a castaway. So was he wrong after all?

I would have loved for him to pick Mary Ann and cause epic Ginger tantrums and be banished from the girls' hut forever.

Oh, and did anyone else see Gilligan PEEKING THROUGH HIS FINGERS at Mary Ann's costume malfunction?? Bahahaha!

LOL, classic, ph1l. I give a real, TV-production response and get bested by a swim suit malfunction. Touche!

Teebs, there's a fic in there somewhere. The guys call him on a technicality and he picks MA (because, duh) and Ginger has a tantrum and Lovey is planning the wedding and Gladys gets mad at him. The whole place is in an uproar. But then what about our precious status quo? Darn.

Ginger would banish him, but MA would let him in when she was gone. Whomp whomp.

HE TOTALLY PEEKS, TEEBS. I saw that when I was like 8 years old and LOL'ed my butt off. Oh, Bobby, what a smooth operator.

I could have sworn Bobby mentioned the peeking in 'Gilligan, Maynard and Me' (there Bobby, I've plugged your book) but he didn't- all we got was how he 'wouldn't have minded' if Gilligan and Mary Ann had gotten together.

(Plus, how he threw pie at Tina so the crew guys could get time out to play cards. )

There IS a fic in there somewhere. Gilligan took the easy way out and cheated! Although I don't know where Gladys carried him off to. I dread to think. Jungle love!

I do love in the beginning how Gilligan just agrees with all the compliments. Yeah, Ginger! Yeah, Mary Ann! Yeah, Mrs. Howell! I know, let's have a beauty contest, it'll be fun!
And then everyone else treats it like a military operation.

The peeking was a nice little ad lib on his part. I bet he was so proud of himself for the rest of the week and she's like

Poor G Man's just trying to go along with everyone and he suggested something he thought would be fun. "Yeah, a beauty contest! They'll walk around in bathing suits and it won't be creepy if we watch!" (Wait, that's more of a Skippy thought. Yikes). He should've known he'd be in trouble at the end.

There is a fic in there somewhere, but it'd be a tricky one. Damn, now I'm thinking about it. o.O

She was used to it by then. "Hey, this is how I always sit!"

You wanted an uncomplicated plot idea, there you have it! You'd just carry on from the end of the episode. Annnnd, go!
