(CBS News)
Link Former CBS News correspondent Richard Threlkeld died in a car crash Friday morning. Threlkeld, 74, was in his Mini Cooper when it was in a collision with a propane tanker, East Hampton, N.Y., CBS station WCBS-TV in New York reports. Threlkeld was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the truck, 57-year-old Earl Fryberger Jr., was not injured in the crash. Threlkeld worked for CBS News for more than 25 years. He was a regular contributor to the "CBS Evening News" and "Sunday Morning." Threlkeld was one of the most experienced combat correspondents in broadcast journalism. He covered the Persian Gulf War for CBS News and was one of the first journalists to report live from the front during the ground war along the Kuwait-Iraq border and from Kuwait City immediately after it was liberated. Threlkeld reported extensively on the Vietnam War and, in 1975, was among the last journalists evacuated from Phnom Penh and Saigon when those cities fell to the Communists. He also covered the U.S. invasions of Panama and Grenada. |

How sad. He doesn't look familiar to me. May he rest in peace.
