Question regrets

You know that saying, "It's better to regret something you have done than something you haven't"? Do you agree with that? And why?
I agree with it. I keep going back to this one instance when I was in 6th year at school and I was so crazy about this person who was in a couple of my classes but I never told 'em cos I was too chicken and I thought "well, the feelings won't be mutual anyway". Now I really, really wish I'd said something cos the more I think about it the more I think that I really did have a chance after all. I'll never stop wondering what would've happened if I'd just stoppped being so stupid and just said something!!!!

I have always regretted that I had only 2 kids! Wish I'd had had at least 2 more! Too late now!

Thumbs down

In the past 24 hours, my biggest regret was going to the wrong place to get my car repainted (went to Maaco Auto Painting). I told them EXACTLY what color I wanted, but the dingbats still didn't get it right. It's been a really, really painful experience for me.

Ok, I guess I'll be the first person to actually address the question asked in the post. (Sometimes I get the feeling people only read the subject line and not the actual post).

Yes, I agree with that, in general. I agree because when you regret something that you have done, you can often learn a valuable lesson about yourself or the world in the process, and time heals most wounds. Of course, I suppose it depends on what you are talking about of course. Like if you killed 10 people and are on death row, you might regret that more than not asking out that crush in 6th grade, lol But then again maybe if you had asked that person out you would have found that one true love and you never would have started on the self-destructive path that lead to you killing people in the first place, lol.

But in general, I think it would be bad to be forced to always wonder "what if?".

I agree.

I'm not quite sure how to put this... I regret not being courteous to an attractive girl. She was like three inches away from me, I knew what to say, how to say it, and I waited. I waited and she walked away!

I rather have said it than wonder why I didn't.

Regrets of what I didn't do keep me up at night more frequently than regrets of what I did do.

I agree. It's kind of hard to really regret something you never lived through vs. something you did.

I regret practically my entire college career so far. I swear it's been one bad decision after another.

For a long time I regretted being shy and not talking to this guy I had a crush on, but at my senior prom a friend of mine asked if he'd dance with me and he acted all snotty about it, and well, I FINALLY realized he was nothing but a jerk and don't regret that anymore.

I regret the kinds of friends I made back in 2nd grade+. I wanted to be with the clique and so I pushed all my other best friends away. And it's sorta a long story but...

Thanks for being the first person to actually answer my question properly. I see your point - to a certain extent it does depend on what the regret concerns.
But I wasn't in 6th grade - I was in 6th year - I was 17 years old. Matters of the heart are a bit more serious when you're in your teens then when you're in junior school!
