Bob Weston, a guitarist with Fleetwood Mac who played on the albums 'Penguin' and 'Mystery to Me,' has died at the age of 64. Police discovered the British musician's body in his home in north London after neighbors became worried, the Associated Press reports. Authorities do not suspect foul play and a subsequent autopsy revealed Weston died of a gastric intestinal hemorrhage, cirrhosis and throat problems. Weston was brought on as a replacement for guitarist Danny Kirwan in 1972, but after playing with the band for two years, trouble began to brew. While on an American tour, Mick Fleetwood discovered that Weston had been having an ongoing affair with Fleetwood's wife, Jenny Boyd, and the guitarist was fired. Weston's signature slide guitar talent can be heard on the 'Penguin' track 'Remember Me,' and he also wrote the record's instrumental closer, 'Caught in the Rain.' After the affair with Boyd became public, Fleetwood tried to continue touring but became completely unhappy with Weston during a show in Nashville. This in turn nearly caused an early dissolution of Fleetwood Mac, but the band continued on for many more years and affairs. After his short tenure in Fleetwood Mac, Weston went on to play with Murray Head and Ian Wallace's All-Stars Band. He eventually released several solo endeavors, one of which included the drumming of Mick Fleetwood, who had apparently buried the hatchet with the guitarist. Weston is survived by his younger brother Peter. |
