Default A Message to Nickelodeon/Viacom

Dear Viacom,

Nickelodeon and Nick at Nites ratings have dropped 20% since September, and I have a GREAT feeling as to why--because programming choices have turned to ****.

Seriously, 20 years ago, Nick at Nite CARED about its viewers, but since adding The George Lopez Show to its classic (yeah, right, as if acquiring a show that only went off the air 4 months earlier qualifies a show to be classic) lineup of TV Classics.

Sure, there have been GOOD points in Nick at Nite, e.g. its Married...with Children, Growing Pains, & Home Improvement acquisitions, but its as if older programming is being passed off as old hat for newer shows like That 70s Show, Friends, and Yes, Dear (scheduled to join Nick at Nite sometime in 2012).

I have a solution on HOW to improve Nickelodeon/TV Land ratings--1st of all, Nick at Nite should rid itself of ALL the useless **** it shows today.

Instead, the retro cabler should showcase Classic Television sitcoms from the 1950s to the 1990s, shows like Ozzie & Harriet, Step By Step, & Bosom Buddies, along with Mr. Belvedere, as originally broadcast, without edits.

If those of you agree with what Im saying here, PLEASE forward this to Viacom, MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite, TV Land, and all the other crooks of Viacom; hopefully, theyll come to their senses--within 7-10 years.

You know I say go for it!!! You got the right to vent. I will say that maybe Nickeloden/Viacom are listening to you. I say that because I looked this morning on TV Land and I noticed that there wasnt any off the clock programming. Everything was half past the hour or on the hour. Are they listening to us after all or am I delusional?

Older shows aren't going to bring in the viewers. Please stop complaining and just change the channel.

I don't agree. A LOT of people actually prefer the older shows.

I agree.Channels like Antenna and Me-TV seem to be bringing in ALOT of viewers. Not to mention even some cable stations are adding more older shows to their line-ups now, like Hallmark,FamilyNet etc. Even the Cartoon Network seems to be slowly going back to showing more older cartoons like The Flintstones for example.

Not only are these retro stations gaining viewers, nostalgia channels on YouTube that upload older movies, TV shows, radio broadcasts are also extremely popular as well. Now, a lot of the old stuff is pretty bad, but there is such a lack of decent quality current programming, people shouldn't be shamed for wanting to watch more older things.

Does anyone actually have viewer information from any of the retro stations or are they just guesses?

I agree with the OP's comment. NAN and TV Land lack variety and originality along with authenticity. The channels are too commen now.

I'm waiting for The "Disney" Channel to follow suit!

But I stumbled upon this awhile back....

I miss the old Nick at Nite and TV Land as much as anyone but I'm also a realist. If the old way of doing things (i.e. airing classics) was making enough money, I'm sure they'd still be showing more classics. But in today's age of DVD and even more splintered audiences, it's not happening. They are businesses, after all. It's no use complaining - there's a smaller number of passionate fans who want a classic back than casual fans who will turn on George Lopez.

As far as Nickelodeon, their problem is that maybe little kids are sick of watching shows about aspiring pop stars.

The success of the 90's is still respected, yet they refuse to take a cue from the quality of programming then.
