Celebrating her 75th birthday on December 29, Mary Tyler Moore looks as slim and radiant as when she starred as Mary Richards in the MTM show. And yet, she's battled diabetes, personal tragedy, and challenges ranging from alcoholism to surgery.
Today, Mary devotes her time to various charities, such as help for homeless pets. She also wrote a book about her life, entitled: Growing Up Again: Life, Loves, and Oh Yeah, Diabetes The secret to her slender beauty? In an interview with USA Today, Mary said that she has learned to carefully plan every meal to control her diabetes. In addition, she has a home gym, where she works out for one hour total 5 to 6 days each week. Advertisement Mary told the reporter that even though she can no longer enjoy the ballet and horseback riding that she cherished for years, a personal trainer has taught her to substitute other forms of fitness. "I do a combination of treadmill (hands on the support rails because her balance isn't what it used to be), the elliptical machine, rowing and Pilates," Mary told the USA reporter. ".I never get bored." After her workout, she drinks orange juice as needed to keep her blood sugar level. "In all these years, I've never gotten sick of orange juice," Mary added. So here's a toast to Mary Tyler Moore: may she turn the world on with her smile for many more years! http://www.examiner.com/celebrity-we...with-her-smile ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() http://entertainment.time.com/2011/1...e-in-pictures/ |

Glad to read that Mary is doing so well!
Such a beautiful and talented woman! BTW, love the pic of Rob bending over to tie his shoe, while a seemingly perturbed Laura (what legs!) continues down the sidewalk! Was there a caption to that photo...was it a publicity pic for a certain episode? |

I have so much respect for Mary. She is wonderful in so many ways but, to me, especially for all the work she has done for Diabetes. I admire her (and ALL type 1's) for the amazing way they manage their lives.
I'm pre-diabetic, and even dealing with the condition on this (less serious-but still serious) level takes work. My hat's off to her. She's great. |

From what I understand, it is just a promotional picture for the show itself, not a particular episode. (I think)

![]() Mary Tyler Moore, Freshman Year (1952) Even as a freshman at Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles, Mary Tyler Moore was turning the world on with her smile. ------------------------------------------------------ ![]() Miss Dorothy Brown, Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967) After Dick Van Dyke, Mary’s first major film role was in the musical Thoroughly Modern Millie. She showed off her dancing chops as Happy Hotpoint, and now she got a chance to show she could sing alongside greats like Julie Andrews and Carol Channing. |
