Post Christmas Gifts You Received That You Didn't Like

Have you received Christmas gifts that you didn't like?

I love getting gifts from family and I'm always grateful.

My mother's fiancee gave me a Christmas gift last year that was a dvd recorder. It was a nice gift in theory, but because of my vision I have found it very difficult to try and use. The other gift I received from him for Christmas two years ago was a Hazard Alert Radio. I can't see what it says on the screen. It was a nice thought, but it's not helpful in my case.

One year in high school the students and teacher in the VI Room (for students who are visually impaired/blind) had a Christmas gift exchange. I received a box of Kleenex. That was pretty lame, imo. Yes, I have chronic allergies, but still it seemed odd to receive as a gift.

Socks. Now, that would have been all fine and dandy a few years ago when I was wearing socks 24/7.

HOWEVER. These days, if you open my sock drawer, literally all you will find is white Hanes socks. Crew-cut and low-cut styles. Nothing else. PLUS, as soon as I come home, THESE SOCKS COME RIGHT OFF. (along with my shoes) I go barefoot at home Very rarely, I'll wear socks to bed. That's only if I'm freezing my ass off, though.

So... To give me socks for Christmas is really pointless. If they're thermal socks, even more pointless because these will just make my feet hotter. :/

My daughter-in-law used to buy me a different perfume every year. I've worn the same perfume for about 10 years. Beautiful, by Estee Lauder. I ended up telling her.

Someone else would buy me a book every year. She knew I love old Hollywood, so she would get me a book on a movie star from yesteryear. Thing was, I don't like all of the actresses from that era. I think books are a personal choice.

I guess one of the worst gifts was one I didn't get. We had a grab about five years ago, here at SO actually. Just a few people participated. The person who got my name never got me a gift. Even though she doesn't come around anymore, I won't say who it was, but I was really surprised as we were friendly.

The worst gift was a toss up between this big ugly brown purse my sister-in-law got me & a blouse with a huge bow around the neck that my husband got me. You just have to smile & say thank-you all the while wondering "What were they thinking & do they even know me".

Some of those things are hard enough to figure out even with normal vision. We have one that is a pain in the blankity-blank to operate.

As for Christmas gifts, I generally like any gift that I receive, because it is not about the gift for me, because that is not the reason for the season. But what I don't like is that nobody ever buys me toys. I still like playing with them and everybody knows it, but everyone always gets me "grown-up" stuff.

Wow, that's awful that someone would commit to something like that and not follow through.

That's awful. It must have hurt more so knowing that you were friends with the person.

I agree. A person should follow through. It's rude and unfair to sign up for something and then not do what's expected.

I didn't receive anything I didn't like, but my sister sent me and mom some "coal" which is chocolate candy made to look like tiny charcoal, LOL we both got a good laugh out of that.
Also my mom sent me lotion (for bday) which i can't use b/c i'm allergic, but it was a nice thought anyway.

I hate when I receive any religiousy things. People know Im atheist. Giving me a bible or whatever is not going to change that.

Yeah, I was really surprised as this person was a longtime member. We had a thread going on about it, and I joked a couple of weeks later, with "Still waiting" or something and the smiley hitting the ball against the wall in slow motion. Crickets, and this person was active on the thread before. Then she sort of hid, didn't post around me or anything. LOL, all that for a $10 dollar grab.

Just for an extra kick in the butt, I still had to buy the person I drew in the grab. I always give extra. I sent the person I got an $18 calendar from Amazon.com. I saw it on his Wish List thread.

I don't think I've ever recieved anyhting that I really didn't want. I've always been pretty happy with my gifts.
