There are so many different ideas about the true meaning of Christmas. But of course it is the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.The true meaning has been lost to many and watered down. And I am as guilty of that as anybody. I get so wrapped up in the secular things of the season that I too tend to forget what it's all about. It's true that we don't know the date of Jesus' birth and there are many traditions which have arisen concerning it. But that doesn't matter. Celebrating His birth whenever it was is the main focus. And I as well as anybody need to remember that! Thanks for giving me the nudge Tubehead! (slaps forehead)

Christmas started as a pagan celebration in the Roman Empire, where people did about what people do now, give presents, party, sing songs. There was even a god called Sol Invictus, the Sun god. It was such a fun day that the Christians just co-opted it.

100% this. People act all offended when religion isn't celebrated with the holiday when that wasn't even the reason it began.
