CBS Brings Back Celeb. Interview Program "Person to Person"
CBS Bringing Back "Person to Person"
Dec 15, 2011 by Douglas J. Rowe CBS News is bringing back "Person to Person", the 1950s prime-time program that pioneered celebrity interviews and was hosted by legendary newsman Edward R. Murrow. "We have dreamed about bringing a modern version of this great program ... back to CBS for years — and now it is happening," CBS News Chairman Jeff Fager said Thursday. "It is an exciting new development for us, particularly because it will be led by two of our most accomplished producers and two of our best interviewers." Charlie Rose and Lara Logan will co-host the new version, which will be shown occasionally in prime time, starting Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 8/7c. The network didn't reveal who might appear on the premiere. On the original, which ran from 1953 to '61, the guests covered a wide range of newsmakers and celebs — Marilyn Monroe, John Steinbeck, Margaret Mead, John F. Kennedy (then a senator) and Fidel Castro (who appeared in pajamas). In a statement, CBS said Person to Person "will retain many of the elements that made the original so captivating." Rose, the PBS interviewer who's joining CBS' revamped morning show, and Logan, the network's main foreign affairs correspondent, will bring viewers into the private homes of public people — musical artists, actors, directors and political leaders. Conversation will be the primary focus. The executive producer of the series is Susan Zirinsky, who's also the executive producer of "48 Hours Mystery". http://www.tvguide.com/News/CBS-Brin...n-1040880.aspx |
