I am wondering what the correct thing would be to do in this situation.
My mother's financee's daughter, Misty, is getting married this month. My mother and her fiancee are going to the wedding while my sister and are staying here. The wedding is taking place in North Texas about 10 to 12 hours away. I have only met Misty twice and her finacee Eric once. I received an invitation a few months ago. I replied thanking her for it, but letting her know that I would be unable to attend. Should I buy a wedding gift for her? |

I don't think you should, Jenny. It's not as if you've been involved all along, with the bridal shower, etc. You don't know the couple and given where they live, I doubt you'll form a friendship with them. You know, when you told me the other day that your brother told you where the couple was registered, I thought to myself, WTH, since when would a guy care about something that clearly didn't concern him, is clearly a women's thing, and sorry to say, a guy who just had his leg amputated.
I think his witch of a wife put him up to it. "Make sure you tell Jenny where they're registered. We gave a gift, so she should too!" Don't let your mother rope you into it either. That's my two cents worth (really way more, lol). |

I didn't realize the registering thing is a woman's thing. That being said the last wedding I went to was for my dad and now step-mom. And that was a long time ago. |

You don't know them. You're not going. You don't owe them anything. |

That is true, the couple lives several hours away and it is not like I will see them on any regular basis. The card I sent months before, and perhaps a wedding card should be enough. |

I agree with you Family Ties a wedding card should be enough. They may not treat you the greatest, but hopefully the wedding card might be the olive branch for them to treat you better.

Agree with everyone. Sounds like you are being pressured into giving a gift for people you barely know and probably won't ever know. It's bad form to try to rope someone into giving a gift, with that type of relationship.
A card will be perfectly adequate.
