Martina McBride's last three albums, Waking Up Laughing, Shine and Eleven have been three of her finest albums from a creative perspective but each has sold less than the previous. Waking Up Laughing became her first album since her debut not to reach platinum status (1,000,000 copies sold), Shine sold even less and Eleven has dropped out of the Billboard Top 100 albums chart after a mere two months in stores. Despite signing to a new record label, heavy promotion and experiments with different types of sounds, Eleven has failed to gather much interest from the public. At Target the album sold so poorly that we had to ship about 20 copies back to the warehouse.
Despite Martina's poor sales and the overall poor sales of Cds as a whole there have still been some big selling albums like Katy Perry's Teenage Dream. Also, such classic albums as The Beatles #1, Led Zeppelin IV and Journey's Greatest Hits sell between 500,000 to 1,000,000 copies per year. I think part of Martina's recent drop in sales may be in part due to her somewhat change in image. Her wholesome, lady-next-door imagine has in recent years been replaced by a more sexual image, which many fans may not like. I've asked several people who liked Martina's older music and they each said her recent music sounds "tired" and they just are not interested in it. Its a shame whatever the reason since Eleven is a wonderful album and deserved a wider audiance. |

Can't say I'm really disappointed to hear this, sorry. I think Martina's songs have got really mushy this year (that "Teenage Daughters" song made no sense to me, IMO, and I can't bear to listen to "I'm Gonna Love You Through It" for personal reasons). It's a shame, because Martina had a lot of great songs and a great singing voice early on (such as Independence Day, Concrete Angel, and This One's For The Girls), but I think she changed her style of songs this year, and not for the better, IMO.

I fully expect Taylor Swift to win, but anyway, congrats to Martina on her Grammy nomination for I'm Gonna Love You Through It!

"Teenage Daughters" is one of my favoirte songs off the album and the video is really good.
I think that "I'm Gonna Love You Through It" is a very powerful song. Maybe not as much as "Concrete Angel" but its still really moving.
