Marcia Cross Almost Became a Therapist Before Landing "Desperate Housewives" (VIDEO)

Marcia Cross' life has taken nearly as many twists and turns as her "Desperate Housewives" character Bree Van De Kamp's.

She told Robin Roberts on "Good Morning America" that before she was cast in "Desperate Housewives", she was on the brink of retiring from acting to become a therapist. Eight seasons later, she's still on Wisteria Lane for the show's final season.



"I was almost on my way to being a therapist. I thought it was the end and I had one last audition. I was saying goodbye saying that 'this is going to be the last time that I'm in this building.'

I got the job and I still thought that I was going to be done, but I was told there's this great pilot and I have to read for it. I wanted to be 'Mary Alice' with the voice-over because I wanted to have a child and I thought I was going to be a single mother.

Marc was like 'No, I want you to do 'Bree', and I'm now here for eight years."
