Default Antenna TV - the good and the bad

Do we really need them to show series that are on our shelves complete on DVD? Really, we can do without Good Times, All in the Family, Sanford and Son, Three's Company, Leave it to Beaver, Dragnet, Dennis the Menace, Father Knows Best, Gidget, Adam-12, etc. If I want to watch any of those series, I'll put it in the DVD player. Of the hundreds of series produced, couldn't they come up with more shows that people HAVEN'T seen over and over and over? I'm not even talking about the shows with only a few episodes. But what about series like San Francisco Beat, The Millionaire, Our Miss Brooks, December Bride, The Joey Bishop Show, Make Room for Daddy, The Little People, To Rome With Love, Julia, Ghost and Mrs. Muir, Nanny and the Professor, Please Don't Eat the Daisies, Mayberry RFD, The New Dick Van Dyke Show, Arnie, How to Marry a Millionaire, GE Theatre, 1950s Dragnet, The Gale Storm Show, My Little Margie, I Married Joan, etc. All shows with at least 2 seasons worth of episodes and that have not been seen and are not out fully on DVD.

Let's stop playing songs on the radio that people already own on albums, too. Why should those who don't have the albums be exposed to these songs?

DVDs are great but AKA is right, alot of people do not have DVDs of all or even some of the shows stations like Antenna and Me-TV air.Plus in my case I just want to turn on the television set and have something good to watch, without thinking to much about it.--I do agree though there are alot of good older shows like those you mentioned bencasey, and alot more too that should be put back on the air.Maybe what we really need is something like 5 or more widely available, well run classic television stations.

I have very little money. I don't have cable, so Antenna TV is a great way for me to see all these shows I love. I have a few DVDs but not many. I plan to buy more in the new year, but I don't always have the money. I love watching Three's Company on Antenna TV.

I can see it from both sides, I don't have a large dvd collection and can't always pop in a disc when I want to so having channels such as Antenna TV, ME-TV and others are good to have in that respect but Ben Casey also has a very valid point, most of the shows airing now have been syndicated for many years and a lot of the shows he mentioned haven't been. I see nothing wrong with maybe adding some of these shows into the mix and at least giving the viewers a chance to watch them again or see them for the first time.

I think part of the problem too is that retro TV stations that air the old shows want to play it safe and stick with the more popular shows that they feel confident will draw a sufficient audience. It's a ratings game. Some of the other shows that bencasey mentioned have become lesser known today, mainly due to lack of exposure. If a TV station recieved lot of requests to air a specific show, I imagine they would look into it and air the episodes if it would be possible. Having said that, I think stations like Antenna TV and Me-TV do a pretty good job airing a variety of shows, although I agree there are some long unseen shows that deserve to get some air time as well. Most of my favorite shows I have on DVD, so I don't watch the retro TV stations too much these days, once in a while I tune in but not very often.

TV isn't just for poor people. Many of us do have enough money to have DVD collections that are extensive. Antenna is missing out on viewers that they could have if they ran other programs. And besides, no offense, but those of us would also have more money to buy the advertisers products so we're probably a more desirable audience.

Most of the shows you named I've never even heard of. The only one I would want to see is Make Room for Daddy. If Antenna TV adds more, I want more 70's and 80's shows.

70s sitcoms suck and are completely dated. As for the 80s, the less said the better. Besides, they have most of the bigger 70s shows already, at least the comedies. If you're talking dramas, they have a lot of area where they could improve when it comes to that genre.

70's sitcoms suck .......that's a matter of opion.... I love 70's sitcoms.. It doesn't matter what decade a sitcom was made, a classic is a classic... A lot of social issuses where exsposed in the 70's, that was tabot to talk about in the 50's and 60's.... that still goes on in our socity today..(dated)??....I....don't think so... For you to insinuate that the 1970's sitcoms are dated, is a contradiction.... How can that be when you are sitting here talking about, Our Miss Brookes and December Bride? 1950's or 1970's.. It's pretty logical which decade would be condidered more dated.... Pehaps that's why these shows havn't been shown on television, in decades..

I have to mostly agree about 70's sitcoms, there are a few I enjoy but the majority I don't really care for. All In The Family was a groundbreaking show and it had a huge effect on other sitcoms that were to follow, but not in a good way in my opinion. I've always felt that the 50's was the decade for westerns, the 60's was the decade for sitcoms, and the 70's was the decade for cop shows.

Antenna TV has been airing a couple long unseen shows, Circus Boy and Iron Horse. Me-TV has been airing the Honey West shows.

I agree with Bencasey

Good times, Sanford and Son, and All in the Family are all COMPLETE on DVD and doesn't need to be aired any longer. Maude is not complete on DVD and that show needs to gain a new fan base but all the others need to go.

Same thing with three's company, it's complete on DVD and shouldnt be aired

In the case of AITF, some people are probably still bitter about the botched encoding job Shout Factory did to season 7 (seasons 8 and 9 were fine in terms of enocding, as were seasons 1-6 that Sony put out themselves), and would like to record episodes of season 7 from there so that they wouldn't feel so bitter about it anymore.

Recording season 7 from Antenna TV would not make a AITF feel better because those eps are edited too.

In that case, maybe they could take Antenna TV's cut, and combine parts from it with parts from a differently cut syndicated version, so that they would form a full-length episode.
