Remember the good, old days when all a soap opera fan had to worry about was who Jason Morgan really loved on General Hospital? Would that it were those times again. Daytime drama fans have been devastated since news first broke that plans for Prospect Park's The Online Network (TOLN) to air All My Children online and via other platforms had been derailed. Now comes rumors that One Life to Live's reboot could also be in jeopardy.
According to sources, Prospect Park's trouble securing funding could very likely result in a delay of OLTL's TOLN debut. The serial was initially slated to begin airing on TOLN in January 2012. Additionally, what was a described to me as a "legal issue" is now preventing ABC from allowing the soap opera to continue using their New York City studio. "I don't think it's [plans to continue airing OLTL] dead in the water yet," says a setsider. Another issue that seems to have plans at a standstill is Prospect Park lagging behind in securing pacts with the Writers' Guild of America (WGA) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA). "They were supposed to finalize things with the unions this week, but they keep cancelling meetings with them left and right," says one frustrated insider. "They've also recently brought in new representation, which caused some people to worry." The first person to report on OLTL's move off the ABC airwaves hitting a roadblock was Silas Kain via his Blog Talk Radio program Delibernation's Twitter feed. http://daytimeconfidential.zap2it.co...d-in-the-water |

Figures. Prospect Park, or whoever, should've had all its ducks in a row before announcing it would continue AMC & OLTL. If either of them make it online, I will be completely and totally shocked. As it is, I feel bad for all the cast and crew of both shows who are, or soon will be, on the unemployment line. I also feel bad for the fans who had their hopes up.

I knew this thing was garbage from the get-go-just a way of getting gullible soap fans off of their backs until they could be sure The Chew would pull in decent enough numbers. Thanks to this worthless business AMC ended with a cliffhanger that may never be resolved, and I believe OLTL is set to go with the same. How nice that this show gets even less of a good ending, because at least they had a lot of good returns for AMC. Aside from Cord and Tina this has hardly felt like a good wrap-up of 43 years of history.
