Besides the Golden Girls, were any of the
girls in any other tv shows or movies? I know that Estelle Getty was in "Stop or My Mom Will Shoot", but that's all I know! |

Oh my gosh, yes! Rue is more my area of expertise
but I can give you some hints on things to check out for the others, as well. As for movies you can still rent, or are still in print/things you can still see on TV at times: Betty White: Lake Placid (in a role you have to hear to believe. It's hilarious!), Hard Rain. She was also a recurring character on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and the first couple seasons of Mama's Family (which you can still catch on TV). In '99, she was on a short lived sitcom called Ladies' Man. Bea Arthur: "Mame," the movie based on the Broadway musical (this stars Lucille Ball). In the 1970s, she starred on a sitcom called "Maude," which was on TV Land, but was cancelled in October (but they play an episode at random every now and again). A year or so ago, Bea made a guest appearance on Malcolm in the Middle. Estelle Getty: Stuart Little, Mannequin (this is a TV movie that still comes on every now and again) Rue McClanahan: Maude, first 2 seasons of Mama's Family. As for movies: Out to Sea (a notable role) and cameos in Starship Troopers, Dear God, etc. She's was also on the 2 part 2001 season finale of Touched By An Angel, which has already rerun a handful of times. She has done numerous television guest appearances (Boy Meets World, Murphy Brown, John Larroquette Show--with Betty and Estelle), All in the Family, Newhart, Murder She Wrote, Love Boat, Promised Land, etc. as well as countless television movies (some of which still come on every so often). She was also on a VERY short-lived WB drama series called Safe Harbor. Sorry, my brain is fried after a day of school and homework, but if you'd like to know more about what Rue has done, feel free to check out my website. -Katie |

Bea Arthur also acted in a movie around the time GG was still being filmed. I think the film was called 'My first love'. It was great. Bea's character was a Dorothy type. I would love to know if this movie is available for purchase. I have asked about it here in Australia, but to no avail. Anyone got any tips?

Rue also acted with Betty in "Mama's Family." I think she was only there for one season... maybe two. Her character died as I recall...

Oh yeah...
Betty was on a sitcom with Marie Osmond in the mid-90s (I think), plus she was on the last Bob Newhart show, "Bob" in the same time period. Betty was also one of the original Tournament of Roses Parade commentators for many, many years. |
