Hey all. so perusing Netflix I came across the movie "The Chameleon". it's about a 19 year old kid who claims to be a missing child. he claims he was kidnapped when he was 13 and escaped a child prostitution ring. his real identity is Frederic Bourdin. he is a talented con man. reading up on the guy was interesting. anyway I tyhought the movie paralleled "Changeling" and the Johnny Gosch case a little. thought you guys might be interested.

Oh goodness. That reminds me of the true case of "I know my first name is Steven".

As if that story wasn't horrific enough, Steven's brother Cary Stayner went on to become a murderer, killing and beheading Yosemite employee Joie Armstrong, and viciously killing a vacationing family and their friend: Carol and Juli Sund, and Silvina Pelosso.

Trace I am familair with that case. it's sad that Steven's brother was blamed for his kidnapping. not that it excuses him from becoming a serial killer. but it does explain why. even more tragic that Steven later died in a crash. just a sad case all around.

That bothered me a lot when Steven Stayner died. I couldn't believe all that he had endured, was finally free, and then to have that happen.

Seems like I read something about his brother's problems were suspected to be partially caused by Steven's disappearance and how it destroyed the family, so that completely ruined his life too.

A program about the Yellowstone Cedar Lodge murders was recently rerun. One thing I'd forgotten from when I'd seen it the first time was that when they were investigating the disappearances of the mom and the two girls, they interviewed employees at other motels and one of the maintenance men at a different motel was a convicted sex offender! I just couldn't believe that they'd let a person like that have master keys to the rooms, and such free access to the whole building and grounds, plus the motel guests, but that kind of thing probably happens a lot more frequently that we're ever told about.
