Rhoda was definitely jealous of Mary. If you watch "Rhoda the Beautiful," she talks a lot in that one about her insecurities about her looks compared to Mary's. And she watched men fall all over Mary, which didn't help either. Rhoda had a terrible time w/ men, at least in Minneapolis. What happened after she moved back to NY is another story for another board, LOL.

Interesting, would you consider them more frenemies than actual friends?

Not at all. They honestly did love each other and were very loyal. But Rhoda always thought Mary had a much better life than she did. It's a very common thing w/ women, to envy what your best friend has, believe me!

I can second that. I'm jealous of my two best friends time and time again, but its never something that I get mad at them for. Lol, they both know I get jealous and I know when they get jealous of me. Haha I always question their sanity when they do, but it does happen.

You can be jealous without being bitter.
