I saw this performance on YouTube and I just had to share it. I thought it was an amazing performance, I never knew she had done anything like this. She is definitely multi talented.
Unfortunately someone disagreed with me and they let me know it. Here is what they said: "I'm sorry, but am I, truly, the only person here who thinks that, not only is her voice terrible, but, if you HADN'T seen her from 'Frasier,' wouldn't care at all for her, as a performer? I do feel alone, so feel free to thumb me down.... but my god, she has little, to no, real talent. I, for one, can't stand her hitting that god-awful "note" once more." This was my response: "I love Jane Leeves. I just think she is super talented. You are definitely in the minority. She can dance, sing and act, and she is drop dead gorgeous. But that is my opinion. This was their replies:"Well, the fact that you made no mention as to that horribly sounding "note" on the final syllable of "Cab-a-ret" should automatically void your entire opinion to me, but I'm slightly astounded that you didn't even bother recognizing it, in the first place. Whether the novelty of "Daphne" has worn off on you, I'm not sure, but I do know what is good singing and what is not. And that, sir, is far from what anyone would consider to be "good singing."" PS: "When you say that I am "definitely in the minority," is that taking into consideration the number of people that actually bothered to look Jane Leeves up after 'Frasier' versus the number of people who didn't? If you're talking only about Jane Leeves' personal fan base, then I would have to agree with you. Otherwise, 'no', as is obvious from lack of people who even know who she is. If she had actual talent, she'd be more widely recognized rather than just as "Daphne" from 'Frasier.'" I mean geez, if you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all. If they hate her so much, why are they even looking at a video with her in it? Makes no sense to me. Here is the clip: |

Why do you keep talking to these people?? ![]() I didn't think that performance was bad... she's not a professional singer but a professional actress, and that was definitely where the strength was in that performance. She roped the audience in with the drama in her performance, didn't they hear that? And Broadway isn't always about being an amazing singer. It's about the right performance for the character they are playing. Lots and lots of actors who don't really sing much can and do sing on Broadway, and can pull off a good performance by muse of the character they're playing. If you feel the need to continue speaking to people who don't know how have an intelligent debate, then I think you should tell them this line that you said: Quote:
But then again, if it were me, I probably wouldn't give these people any more of my time because they aren't there to have a conversation about their opinion. They're there to have people listen to their sniping and then react to whatever they say. Sorry to be so blunt about it, but people who just toss barbs around like that with the sole intention of riling people up only to stomp on them really annoy me.

OMG... I didn't think that was good at all....
THAT WAS AMAZING! Scared you there for a minute, didn't I? But seriously... WOW... what a voice she has! Dare I say that she sounds a bit like Julie Andrews? Must be the accent but I don't know how people can say that she's a terrible singer! I'd love to have a CD of that Caberet, to be honest. I think she even sang in "James in the Giant Peach" which I haven't seen yet. Andress, I know what you mean about people on other boards. I don't get why people would bother looking up an actress on Youtube that they don't even like! That's nuts, but they sound like shallow people anyway. And I know this is sort of off-topic but I also LOVE listening to David Hyde Pierce sing. I love the songs he does in "Curtains" and I REALLY wish I would have been able to see him do that on Broadway, but I wasn't a Frasier fanatic back then, but I do have the soundtrack! And I am dying to buy this song that I found on a tribute CD that he was involved in... His voice is just beautiful.... Not surprising considering the source though. I could listen to him sing all day... Sigh...http://www.amazon.com/Goodbye-to-Boston/dp/B0048ZJGI0 |

Jane is an amazing singer, especially in this, which I've seen before. But she's done a little singing on "Hot in Cleveland." And she should definitely sing more!
Just a side note, John Stamos was in Cabaret with Jane, and I read that people wondered what Daphne was doing with Uncle Jesse (from Full House)! I would've loved to have seen her in this, or DHP in one of his plays, or Kelsey in La Cage Aux Folles. I think they've all been on Broadway, except Peri & John, but I'm not sure about them. Oh, and she performed Cabaret in England.
