Default Weed-smoking neighbors: what are my rights?

Normally I'm a "live and let live" kind of guy. What people do in their own homes is their own business, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone.

Having said that, I moved my family into an apartment complex about three weeks ago. I've noticed--especially in recent days--that the smell of marijuana smoke wafts into my bathroom at night through the window, which we usually keep open.

If that wasn't bad enough, we left our apartment this afternoon at around 5 to go out to dinner, and the smell of pot was very strong in the common area. I immediately noticed four our five people standing outside the apartment a few doors down from us engaged in a game of "puff, puff, pass."

That's unacceptable. In an area through which my son and other children must travel to leave the apartment complex (on Halloween, no less), these d-bags are producing second-hand weed smoke for all to breathe and smell. In broad daylight.

Again, I'm no prude. I just don't want my living quarters to smell like a Cypress Hill concert. Advice?

I'm suprised that bothers you. I've always thought of you as kind of a liberal type person. Anyway go to the Police and let them know whats going on. Nobody, especially their children, has to live in an unsafe enviroment like that. Good Luck, I hope everything works out ok.

Just because a person is a Liberal does not mean that they agree with marijuana usage, which does not make any sense.

Back to the topic, if I were you I would go the Apartment manager and let them know about the situation, and tell them that if it keeps happening then you will have to contact the police.

The bad thing about calling the cops is they just start right back up after the cops leave and you have to worry about reprisals. Living in an apartment complex,I would assume your car would be vulnerable. I would talk to the apartment manager to see if he can put a stop to it. Better his car gets damaged than yours.

I'd also notify the Manager if that doesn't work start looking for another place to live.

Oh No

i can definitely understand this Brad, and with your new child, i don't blame you one bit. i'm usually a live and let live kind of guy in these matters, i mean shoot, my household is quite liberal to put it mildly. With a child though, it's unexcusable that they'd do this. i don't have kids, but my mom was recentely diagnosed with emphasema, and it pisses me off that people come here and still smoke in our house. If i had a kid, i'd be just like you. If it was a year ago, i'd be in jail now, because when someone messes with my family, May God Be With them is all i can say.

If i were you, and if you haven't done so already, i'd try talking to them calmly, explaining your situation. If they respond by making an ass out of themselves, i'd walk away and report them to the manager. i'm not big on reporting things to the police unless totally necessary, but obviously this is about as necessary as it gets. If protecting your child is being a snitch, by all means, be a snitch.

In the meantime, i will pray about it, and hope that things get better for you and your family in this situation. Hope this helps my friend!!

i agree with both paragraph's!! Liberal has nothing to do with anything in this situation since he has a kid, and that's not healthy for his child. Especially since children are so small, and even the tiniest amount of smoke can affect them.
