In May of 2011, Margo Freshwater, who was convicted of a 1966 murder of a clerk but later in 1970 escape from prison and was eventually captured in 2002, was granted a new trial. Just yesterday she took a plea deal which sentenced her to 25 years in prison. She may be released soon for time served, which I think is great because I always thought she was innocent.

Wow, that is interesting news. I wonder why they never sought to see if she suffered from Stockholm Syndrome?

Personally I always felt a great deal of sympathy for Margo. I feel sympathy for the victims and their families in this case as well but this is one case I feel where the guilty party unfortunately never had to stand to answer for his crimes.

Whether or not she was guilty, it's time for her to be released. I never thought the sentence was fair.

That term was never brought up during her 1969 trial, because it didn't exist back then. In fact, the Stockholm robbery that led to the coining of the phrase "Stockholm Syndrome" occurred in 1973. Of course, that's not to say that situations like that didn't happen before then; the term itself just didn't exist in the 1960s.
