I know there's a lot of people who don't have medical and dental insurance especially blacks. I have medical insurance through my fulltime job. I'm lucky that i don't get sick often. I think i have good health because i don't drink alcohol and i don't smoke cigarettes. My eating habits is kinda bad but most people have bad eating habits because meat is hard to avoid for most people. I don't eat meat often but i know a lot of people eat meat often and not enough fruits and vegetables. Blacks have a history of eating a lot of meat and that's why so many of them die from diabetes and other things that come from eating meat that's fried like chicken, hamburgers, steak, pork chops, sausage, bacon. I don't have dental insurance and i'm gonna get some in a few months because i need a root canal because my teeth has been bothering me off and on. I take pills sometimes for the pain and the pain goes away. Dental work is very expensive if you don't have dental insurance.

i do, i'm on medicaid and medicare. Three years ago the dental care became limited though, and so i can only go for an emergency, gum disease, etc. No more bi-annual cleanings, but i take good care of my teeth, so i don't miss it much.

I'm gonna start brushing my teeth twice a day. One of my teeth is black and my teeth are yellow and i was surprised to see that because i brush my teeth everyday. I haven't had my teeth cleaned since i was a teenager. When i get my dental insurance, i'm gonna get my teeth cleaned and get a root canal.

I have medical but there is a 1,250 deductible--so that blows. I went for a stress test and they said I was fine, please pay 750.00
Dental insurance is too expensive so I just brush, floss and stimudent my teeth daily and my check-ups are very good. Instead of every 6 months I make it 7 or 8. |

I have never had dental insurance in my life. I just pay what they ask for. Fortunately only have cleanings, x rays and a few fillings done. I do have health insurance. I do take expensive pills and pay for those out of pocket.

I have medical, dental and vision although I've only had one eye exam in my life. But I did get some glasses that reduce the glare (or are supposed to) in my office and the insurance covered quite a bit of the payments.

Dakert, what's a deductible? How does that work with your medical insurance? $750 is a lot of money to be paying for a stress test. I'm gonna get some dental insurance next month.

I have medical, dental and vision coverage. I pay quite a bit for it too since I'm only working part-time now. Full-time student in grad school.

I have medical through Blue Cross and Blue Shield and dental through Delta Dental. They are paid by the school district where I work (and I am lucky to have it, I know.) The deductibles are sort of high though. The board also pays for prescriptions with a $25 co-pay, but for some reason all the pharmacies have decided not to work with them anymore (lots a legal mumbo-jumbo) and so I am having a hard time finding a place to get prescriptions filled. I have vision insurance through the State of Kansas (since I am a public employee) and I pay for that myself, but it is very good and I haven't paid for an eye exam or glasses in 10 years!

A deductible is what YOU have to pay before the insurance company pays. My deductible is 1,250.00 so if I get a doctor bill of 3,000.00 the insurance company would pay 1,750.00
I also noticed that if a prescription is costs too much it isnt covered.I am considering going back to my original health care plan--An Apple A Day Quote:

Stress test $750.00. How would you like to pay $500.00 for a 7 mile ambulance ride. For a 25 mile it is $1200.00. All it is is a taxi ride. I had very little done while in the vehicle. My gripe with the medical many times is when I see my doctor I leave dissatisfied. All they do is the basics, blood pressure, oxogen level, pulse, maybe check your lungs, and out the door you go for a fee of $225.00. In and out in 15 minutes.
