Default Why Is It So Hard To Get A Job?

I read a recent newspaper article that college graduates are having a hard time finding a job and a lot of them blame Barack Obama. I feel bad for them because the reason why people go to college is so they can get a job in the industry they studied and it does help to have a college degree so you can get a good job. I read that the unemployment rate for black men college graduates is 24%. Wow that's messed up. I know the unemployment rate for white men college graduates is much less than that. The article says also that it's wrong to tell black men they should go to college because they end up having a hard time getting a job. I'm glad i got 2 jobs because i've been unemployed before and it's no fun being broke. I like having money and when i was unemployed, i thought about committing suicide because i got tired of applying for jobs and nobody was calling me. I like my jobs and i do janitorial work. I don't know why people look down on janitors and diss them. Somebody has to do that work and it's a job. The pay may not be good for a janitor but some places pay good for janitorial work. The money i'm making now for my fulltime job is the most money i've made since i've been working. The previous jobs i had paid minimum wage and i hated those jobs. Not only that but i also hated the ignorant black men i worked with. I finally got a job that i like my co-workers and most of them are hispanic. I don't get along with ignorant black men and they're always picking on me for no reason and i don't bother nobody.

Jobs are not hard to get, but good ones are hard to find. As far as co-workers go, you will always find yourself working with some idiots. I had a job loading freezers and iceboxes on the back of trucks and had to work with two of the biggest loafers you ever saw. They were both over 6 feet and 200 Lbs but I ended up doing most of the lifting. One always claimed to have a bad back and the other one was always looking for an easy way to do things. He would say, " We cannot move this one because the axle on the dolly is bent " I would tell him to forget the dolly and help me heft the damn thing. I only worked there for one summer,The work didn't bother me, just those two did.

You're right that good jobs are hard to get. I've had a lot of terrible jobs and i regret working at those places. I've worked at several factories and that type of work is the worst. The pay sucks and the work is hard. I've also worked for a beer company delivering beer and beverages and that work is hard too. I don't like hard labor jobs. I would rather get a office job wearing a dress shirt, dress pants, a tie, dress shoes.

I am the opposite, I would rather work in a junkyard or dig ditches than wear fancy clothes and be cooped up in an office.

I know this feeling. I am looking for an office job in training and it's hard to find one. I have two degrees and for entry level I am too overqualified and for jobs in my field are competitive. Because I am skilled I can't go back to college. I can't do back breaking jobs that involve standing or lifting because I have arthritis as well.

I don't understand why jobs won't hire people like yourself who are overqualified. If you've got experience for the job, what's the problem? It shouldn't matter that you're overqualified. That's bullsh*t to me that people who are overqualified can't get a job. I can't stand job supervisors especially white men supervisors. They're the worst. I think if there were more black supervisors than white supervisors, there wouldn't be so many unemployed blacks. IllinoisTVFan, are you white or hispanic? I see what you mean about hard labor jobs. Those jobs are terrible and i hate them. I will never do that type of work again.

I'm white, but female which often works against me. I asked a few places why they don't hire what they consider overqualified and a few were blunt and said I'd get bore which means of course they are fearful I'd take over from them. In low skilled jobs people are fearful some more qualified will steal their job. Another excuse is that I would quit as soon as a better job comes around but wouldn't everyone? When I was a teen or in college most retail and restaurant jobs were to me temporary anyway.

Why is it so hard to get a job?Outsourcing and the internet are two big reasons.Something could easily and should be done about outsourcing.I don't know what could be done about the internet however.I heard even travel agencies are having a tough time because of the internet.

Outsourcing and visaed workers are part of the problem I am having. I happen to know several jobs I interviewed for went to visaed workers. Those at the highly skilled managerial skills (this is me)are competiting against both outsourcing and visas.

What's outsourcing? Lunch, why would you blame the internet for people being unemployed? I blame white men supervisors for a lot of blacks being unemployed. IllinoisTVFan, sorry to see you're struggling to find a job. How long have you been unemployed? I'm surprised you don't have a job since you're a white woman. I thought it would be easy for white women to get a job.

Thanks, eventually I will find something but it is hard. Unfortunately a lot of the white male managers prefer other white males. The reason outsourcing ruined a lot of jobs is because now companies can send jobs overseas. The internet changed a lot for the better but it also was able to combine various jobs into one. For instance, at most companies they had a secretary but now with computer programs anyone can do these jobs. Same with graphics and many others.

I see what you mean about outsourcing. There was a factory job i used to work at called Mr Coffee and the company moved overseas and a lot of employees lost their job. I was kinda upset that i had to lose the job because i liked working there. When the building became vacant and another company moved in called Dirt Devil, i worked there for a little while unloading trucks and there was a couple of ignorant black guys that got on my nerves and i quit. I don't get along with ignorant black men and i don't like being around them because they're always picking on me for no reason. I don't bother nobody. I quit a couple of jobs before because of ignorant black men bothering me. My fulltime job i have now is the first time i've worked with more hispanics and whites than blacks and i love it because like i said, i don't get along with ignorant black men.

Yep noticed this. I have called on various computer issues to have them tell me to look online. Great but what if I am having problems getting online?

I also can't stand jobs that fire people that are good workers just because they feel like it. My dad recently lost his job a few months ago and he told me they forced him out because he wouldn't take a test that they wanted him to take. He said he took it before and he passed it. He said he wasn't gonna take it again because he said he thinks they were gonna make the test harder so he could fail it and not keep his job. Now he's trying to get a unemployment check and he can't get it because he said he's having a problem trying to fill out the questions on the internet at the employment website.
