Question Belly button ring

I was thinking about getting my belly button pierced. Does anyone on this board have their belly button pierced? Does it hurt bad? I know it takes 6 months to heal. Also which one of the girls do you think would most likely get a belly button ring or tattoo? Also do any of you have tattoos also?

Hmmmm, I guess Andy or Pippa would most likely get their belly-button pierce....

Hmmm, I doubt that any of the FOL girls would. Andy or Pippa however possibly would...I am basing that on the fact that Andy got his ear pierced and Pippa thought it was so cool. I didn't understand it at first, but now I see why you didn't post this at the chit-chat board. P.S.....sorry I can't help you............

I think Pippa would probably be the one to get a belly button ring or a tatoo. LOL, I actually see Bev goin' for a tatoo...hehehe.

Sorry I can't help you out. I have issues with needles, therefore I have no experience with belly button rings or tatoos.

Ummm- eek! I just remembered that it was in "On the edge" (the ep where Jo talks a colleague out of committing suicide). I feel bad about giving out this detail to those who haven't seen it, but then again it looks like no network will ever show those controversial eps.

LOL I've gotten more scared of them becauses certain episodes of "Hart to Hart" & "Charlie's Angels"...in one episode of H2H someone takes a needle and puts air into a guys veins in a hospital...and on CA someone injects someone with so much cocaine it kills thme. Anywayz, I'm off topic lol.

Well, first I think the beginning of this topic should have been placed on the chit chat board and the second on the facts board, but since it was not, I will respond to your question with first hand experience and knowledge. Oh first let me say I could totally see Mindy Cohn with a belly ring. I'm not so sure about Natalie, except when she was older.

(if anyone gets queasy from reading this, I apologize--in fact, don't read anymore of this message if you do)

Anyway, about the piercing itself. Mine did not hurt when it was pierced. I was extremely nervous about it hurting but it is too quick to hurt. Plus, they will clamp your navel to make the skin taut and then the needle will push through and it will be over, it really doesn't bleed a lot, the best I remember, it was less blood than if you cut your finger. Ok, the pain comes from the healing process. And the pain is more of a soreness than like sharp pains. This will be painful for quite a while, unless you are an incredibly fast healer. The reason it takes so long to heal (bellys take longer than almost any other piercing on the body) is because all that your navel is made of is skin and fat. It takes a while for the scar tissue to form. Anyway, its gonna hurt while it heals, and it will probably drain, get a little puss (see a Dr. if it is a lot or an unusual color), and a little crusty. You really have to take care of it and keep it clean until it is healed. It is possible that it could get infected, but its really unlikely to do so if you keep it clean and didn't get a fool to pierce it. Which let me say quickly, PLEASE make sure that you go to a reputable piercer with a clean shop. Ok, another thing, I suggest that you ask for a bent rod instead of a ring or a straight rod because it will heal easier and will be less painful while healing. I'm sure you know but, you will be peirced with a needle, yes a big one. Then the ring/rod will be put in its place. The rings, in my opinion, should NOT be worn until completely healed because they will bump your shirt and pants, and move too much when you sleep and that does not feel good. I hope you like low cut jeans because they will be your best friend after you get pierced! However, you have to keep the ring or rod turned and rotated to keep it clean, in which case the ring is easier to rotate, but a rod will still work. When you sit down, you will sit like a pregnant woman, you will do everything like a pregnant woman because you will try your very hardest not to bend and make your belly's skin folds touch each other! It hurts. Once it is healed though, it is really great (if you even remember it's there!) because you get to wear it like any other jewelry, change it out, match your clothes, etc. One more thing, make sure that you really want the ring and that you will want it later in life. If you don't think it's something you will enjoy having when you are 30 or 40, perhaps you shouldn't get it. And please don't get one just so you can say you did something stupid when you were young, yes, I actually had a friend who was about to get a tatoo, a PERMANENT tatoo, for this reason. Get it only because you really want it, not for your friends to see, or make your parents angry, or anything else silly like that. I think you'll be happy with the result, more so 6 months later. Let me know if you want to know anything else (I may have told you WAY more than you wanted to know).

I apologize for the length of this message, just go a little carried away.
