Hilary Duff Felt "Isolated" as a Child Star - Prays Her Son Will Not Go into Show Biz
Hilary Duff Felt 'Isolated' as a Child Star, 'Prays' Son Will Not Enter Showbiz
Posted on Oct 24th 2011 by Contessa Gayles Hilary Duff is expecting her first child with hockey-playing husband Mike Comrie, and if the 24-year-old former child star gets her way, her unborn son won't follow in mom's footsteps and go into showbiz down the line. Duff was thrust into the spotlight ten years ago, at age 14, as the lead character in the Disney Channel's "Lizzie McGuire". After going on to release several successful albums and appear in multiple films, Hilary has taken a moment to reflect on her "isolated" childhood in front of the camera and the toll it has taken on her. She told CNN talk show host Piers Morgan: "My sister [Haylie Duff] and I really showed an interest in performing and dedication, and my mother was like, 'How can I tell my kids no?' It's the same as kids that are going into sports. Parents support them and push them." Although it's what she wanted, Hilary did sacrifice a lot at a young age in the process. "I missed out on stupid things like passing notes in school and having a locker and riding the bus, I mean, really stupid things." Hilary revealed that it was when her music career took off that life in the limelight really started taking its toll. "Once I started touring ... my life ... was very isolated, you know? I lost a lot of my friends. I was on a totally different playing field than anybody else. And I grew up a lot faster, and I think that it definitely put me in a different place." But don't get her wrong, when all is said and done, Hilary is grateful for the unique opportunities and experiences she's had. "I wouldn't trade it. I had this amazing life. I had these amazing experiences from a young age. And I think I was good at separating that and being, like, OK, well, they get this, but I get this, you know?" But even with that retrospective appreciation for her child stardom, Hillary Duff still hopes her son wont get bitten by the showbiz bug. "I think kids know what they want, but I just pray to God that's not what he wants. From when I started to now, the industry is so different. I mean, there's such an obsession with people's private lives that I really don't think was there before." She continued: "These tabloid shows about digging into people's lives and wanting to embarrass everybody and show that, like, we're human beings, too. It's just so invasive, and it's just a different business than it used to be." http://blog.music.aol.com/2011/10/24...duff-pregnant/ |

She's pretty down to earth from what I've noticed and doesn't seem to have let stardom go to her head. Selfishly I wish she'd do more CD's because I love her singing but it sounds like she wants a normal (as possible) life with her husband and son, which I can completely understand.

She's truly a great role model. Not surprised she turned out so well. It has always seemed like she had a good head on her shoulders.
congrats on the family, Hilary! |

Lizzie McGuire is a great, family sitcom. And I'm glad to see Hilary Duff has done well and stayed out of trouble. It's always good to see former child stars blossom into well transitioned adults.
