In the motion picture, Here Come the Nelsons, Ozzie's occupation was an advertising executive. On the tv show, Ozzie's line of work was never mentioned and he was never shown leaving for or coming home from work. He often spoke of going downtown during the day, riding the bus downtown, having lunch downtown etc... but nothing about actually working.

It's been said, Ozzie felt more people could relate to him if he didn't have a specific occupation.

Ozzie was either the first person to "work from home" or he was constantly on call. LOL. On one early episode I saw him coming home from work and tossing his briefcase on a chair. He always felt he could be "more in the action" if he was around the house.

Bellows" agency). He said that most of the stories on the show occurred during the weekend, when he was "off", or took place before and/or after his day "on the job". Ozzie did mention, from time to time, his former occupation as an orchestra leader, "years ago".

Rick was asked this question on a tv show in 1983, and replied: "Actually, he owned an adult book store"...and the interviewer broke into hysterical laughter! Rick and Dave both had a very dry sense of humour as adults.

Rick did have a very dry sense of humor. From what I have read and heard, he was a delight to be around.

What Ozzie did for a living was stated in every episode of 'The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet'. Specifically, what Ozzie did for a living was stated in the credits, he was the Producer, Director, Writer and Star of 'The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet'.

I'm actually quite serious, the TV program was a reflection of the Nelson's real lives and their real lives were a reflection of the TV program, so, in fact, we always knew exactly what Ozzie did for a living both on and off the show.

'The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet' was TV's first reality show.
