Music Update: The Original Black Sabbath is Reuniting!!!

Black Sabbath Reunion Closer to Reality?
by Gregory Burkart
10/24/11

According to an interview with Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi in UK metal mag Terrorizer, the legendary band's original lineup – Iommi, frontman Ozzy Osbourne, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward – recently met for a casual jam session to play several of their classic songs, adding a little bit more fuel to the ongoing rumor that the band might be game for an official reunion.

It's still hard to tell at this point, but this sounds like a step in the right direction.

Iommi has been doing a lot of press for his forthcoming book Iron Man: My Journey Through Heaven And Hell With Black Sabbath, which is set to hit bookstores on November 1st.

More recently he's gone from debunking rumors of a possible band reunion (which originally started with an article in local UK paper The Birmingham Mail), to revealing that all the original members are still interested in doing something together... but he's not ready to make an official announcement for fear of disappointing fans if it falls apart.

In the new Terrorizer article, he revealed that the band has actually teamed up to rehearse some of the old Sabbath hits, which sounds promising, considering the friction between Tony and Ozzy back in 2009 over ownership of the band's name, as well as Ward's recent health issues.

"To be together again was great," Iommi said.

"We're all on good terms and we're at a stage where we can play together again. It would be good if we could and I suppose it's the closest it's been to be able to do that. It could happen!"

Update: Sabbath Reunion Announcement Friday?
by Gregory Burkart
11/7/11

A couple weeks ago, we passed along some promising news about the rumored reunion of the original Black Sabbath lineup – that would be frontman Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward – when Iommi revealed that the group had recently participated in an impromptu jam session.

Finally, all that on-again/off-again talk might actually be set straight: the band has posted the date "11.11.11" along with their original logo on the splash page of their official site, and word on the street is that date (this Friday) corresponds to a major announcement from the band.

The announcement from the original lineup will reportedly be made at precisely 11:11 AM on 11/11/11, during a private function at the famous LA club Whisky A Go Go – where, oddly enough, Sabbath once opened for Alice Cooper on November 11th, 1970.

Punk rock icon, talk show host and horror actor Henry Rollins will be officiating at the ceremony. That much is known, but other than the logo and date on their official site, no other details have been revealed.

Hopefully we'll know for certain this Friday... stay tuned!

It's Official: Black Sabbath Reunites!
November 11, 2011
By: Jonny B.

After years of fan demands and speculation, it is now official: Black Sabbath has reunited! The original members (Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi, and Bill Ward) will record a new studio album produced by Rick Rubin (Metallica, Slayer, Slipknot), which is being planned for a 2012 release.

The band will also be headlining the Download Festival on June 10th and will then embark on a worldwide tour.

Yep, first official studio album with Ozzy in 33 years, their first official since 'Never Say Die!' in 1978. They recorded two new songs for 1998's 'Reunion' album, but that was mostly live. Black Sabbath has gone through multiple singers over the past few decades, starting the late Ronnie James Dio in 1980, and had put out some excellent albums, while others were merely decent. It's going to be interesting to see what they come up with next year.
