i love the movie Ratatouille. That movie perfectly shows what i'm saying. We never had alot of money growing up, so we often had to get creative. One of our favorite dishes that we use to make with our late Opa when we'd spend the night at him and Oma's house was buttered noodles, with two eggs, pepper, and lots of salt. i was always the salt guy, and bro was the egg guy i believe. It was a tradition, and we would all cook it together everytime we spent the night. i miss those days so much.
Another thing we often had at Oma's and Opa's was **** on a shingle. Sorry about the language, but that's what we called it. Not sure what kind of gravy was on the bread, but it was delicious. And there are different variations of this too, with different kinds of gravy. Opa fought in WW2, which is how he met Oma, and these are the kinds of things he ate in the military. i also noticed that some of the more extravagant foods are oftentimes hated by many. A couple examples are caviar, and swordfish, etc. Swordfish are bottom feeder fish, so i don't think i'd even try it. Heard squirrel meat is quite good, but probably wouldn't try it unless i was starving. Carl made a joke a few weeks back saying, with all the squirrels in Oregon, my family back in Arkansas would think we were crazy for not eating them. lol Apparantely they are a delicacy there. Any poor man type foods that you enjoy?? Please share! |

Sloppy Joe's, that's another good one. i remember telling my best friend for 8 years from Long Island, Auntie Ev about West Coast sloppy Joes, how we used hamburger. She thought it was disgusting since apparantely on the East Coast they use pork.
Anyway, never tried it with pork, i hate pork, but i love the hamburger kind. |
