If Alex and Elaine started a romance, do you think it would have killed the show or would it have generated a new interest in it?

The only way to have done this right would have been to have kind of hinted at it happening in the last season, then in the final episode have them really get together.
I think an ongoing romance between the two would not have worked in the show, because it would have diluted the tension between them. Then the only thing to do would have been to break them up, get them back together, etc, etc, which is just what every other show does with romance. Taxi was, and should have remained, different and unique. That is why I am a "finishipper" in regards to Alex and Elaine.

Great post and I agree!
The only reason an ongoing romance between Alex and Elaine would have worked was continuity and Taxi wasn't that type of show really. |
