in the first season black and white episodes of "The Lucy Show"only,,when the series went to color,did he play any OTHER characters either in the color Danfield years(1963-1965)or in any of the color California years(1965-1968)?

I think more than anything, she was looking for an opportunity to get Gale Gordon on the show and she did. I mean, Lane was only a year older than Gordon and I doubt had any worse of a memory.

I have been re-watching the first season (and reading The Lucy Book along with it)--I was surprised to realize he only made 3 episodes as Mr. Barnstahl.

Likewise, I thought he did more. Sometimes it seems as if an actor is in more than they actually are. Paul Lynde only appeared as Uncle Arthur nine times between seasons 2 and 7 on Bewitched, yet I could have sworn it was more than that. (I'm not counting his appearance in season one as Samantha's driving instructor, Harold Harold.)

Being talked about in an episode without actually appearing in it, also helps the impression of being there more than you are....another example is Sam the Butcher on The Brady Bunch.
