Schmidt, New Girl

On a show that also features Zooey Deschanel playing a beautiful, irritating geek, any other character that manages to be more annoying than Deschanel’s Jess has really accomplished something. Enter Schmidt, the douchiest of her three roommates. His priorities include his abs, meeting women, impressing his business-bro friends, and getting into exclusive events where he can show off his abs to women, thus impressing his business-bro friends. There are moments of kindness, sure, but in general, he’s the guy at the party that everyone’s trying to avoid. We find it especially sad that he’s played by Max Greenfield, whose puppy-dog face we grew fond of back when he played a young police officer and love interest on Veronica Mars.

If there's one major gripe I have about modern sitcoms (besides the fact that they don't draw humor from life situations, but rather are taking their source material from OTHER sitcoms, and are thus, not even remotely relevant or funny) it's the general "unlikeability" of most of the characters.

I tune into these shows, and I don't see anyone I recognize from real life. What I see are mostly young, shallow, self-affected and trendy twits who all speak as if they know they are on a sitcom, in a series of ping pong match insults and snarks.

Sorry, seemed like I was due for a rant...lol

I don't know how anyone could find Zooey's character annoying. I think she's hilarious! As for Schmidt, I think his character more than anything was created to kind of spoof or make fun of guys that are like this in real life. I find him so ridiculous, it's funny.
