THE NEW 'FLINTSTONES' WON'T BE TOO DIFFERENT FROM THE OLD 'FLINTSTONES'

To hear MacFarlane tell it, there isn't a tremendous amount that needs refurbishing with The Flintstones, outside of such things as the characters' devices, which he suggests were prehistoric versions of 1960s technology in the original version. (Expect iPads in the MacFarlane version.) The updates will be more evident in the series' writing: "Fred skipping out on the opera to go to the lodge is something that probably would need to be a little fresher in 2011,” he says of a series efforts that will be broader and more accessible, a la The Simpsons, as opposed to the bawdier, more irreverent Family Guy.

If Seth is true to his word and doesn't make the Flintstones bawdy and irreverent I will be relieved and happy! But I'll believe it when I see it!

me too dont get me wrong i like seth;s work but i dont see how he can do a flintstones reboot without putting his trademark edgey/raunchy humour in it bacause lets face it even if he trys to tone it down fox sooner or later will ask him to make it more adult and i dont mean what passed for adult in the first flintstones

Me too. It's the same with Looney Tunes. I don't like the new ones at all. I don't like the animation, and the voices are not as good as Mel Blanc's. I grew up watching these cartoons and still love them. Can't beat the original IMHO.

I'm sure I will watch Seth's version but the original will always be 1st in my heart.

I know I heard it would be updated to fit 2011, that is one thing that bugs me, I know I sound old, I'm not really, but it just gets on my nerves that everything has to be so damn TODAY! There is absolutly no room for "yesterday" anymore. Sheeple want nothing to do with anything if it did not come out 2 years from now.

But remember, The original Flintstones was "today" when it first aired in the 1960's. So, technically Seth is keeping with the theme of the original show.

I was a child in the 80s, and what I mean is, in the 80s you STILL saw things and themes from the 50s and 60s that were popular, I mean when I was a child in the 80s I knew about big time celebs and TV shows from the 50s and 60s, BUT nowdays if something is over a year old it's considered OUTDATED!

I talk to people now days who have no idea who people like Carol Burnett, Dick Van Dyke, or even Lucille Ball are. I think that's a shame that the past is so quickly becoming totally lost and the greats are totally forgotten.

I know in the 60s the Flintstones still represented the 60s BUT it still had older ideas from decades past as well.

That's true, they even played these cartoons in the 80's and even had a revamped version of "The Jetsons".

Also, I've heard about Charlie Chaplin and The Marx Brothers because they were STILL portrayed in many cartoons at the time. (I grew-up on "Tiny Toons" and "Animaniacs"). But I highly doubt a kid growing up now would know who the hell Carol Burnett, The Marx Brothers, or even Elvis Presley are!

I know and it's a SHAME! I almost got pissed off at someone I worked with once for not knowing who Carol Burnett was lol, Was only like maybe 4 or 5 years younger than ME.

Hard to believe that a new Flintstones could be anything but a failure in regards to capturing what the real show was like. They will probably try to overanimate it and not be true to the original voices. Much of the charm of the show was in its limited animation and horizontal movement of everything. Trying to add depth or dimension to the animation would be a mistake in my opinion.
Basically, some things are better left alone, and I think this is one of them.
My basic opinion of remakes is that they should not happen. Rarely does a remake do justice to the original.
