Biggrin The Nerd and the Hot Girl

I am a fan of the Frasier Facebook page and I was reading some of the posts on there. One person posted on there about how it seems that on most TV shows the nerdy guy gets the hot girl. One of the ones she mentioned was Niles and Daphne.
I agree with her about that, the nerdy guy does get the hot girl and I think it's great.
This was my response: "I think it's awesome that the nerds can get the good looking girls! Nerds are usually treat women better anyway. Niles treated Daphne like a queen! It's not all about looks anyway."

I believe that is the reason why Daphne fell in love with Niles because of the way he treated women. He was always wonderfully sweet to her, commented on her looks all the time and knew what a kind, sweet man he really was. Just because a man isn't tall, dark and handsome doesn't mean he isn't a good guy. Niles was a good man and a good husband to Daphne and I can guarantee he was a good father to David. Most good looking guys are jerks anyway. Not that Niles is ugly or anything, he's just not what most women look for. I think all women want a Niles of their own, and I know I have found mine.

It's a nice thought, but in my experience it doesn't happen that often in 'real life'. I very seldom see 'hot' women dating less aggressive men; I don't mean to stereotype but most 'model' type women seem to enjoy the company of men who are beefy, not particularly cerebral and ultimately tend to treat them poorly.

There's always exceptions, of course, and it may be a bit of a regional thing. My own feeling is that anyone who spends a lot of time on their appearance is almost by definition neglecting other, more important, parts of their life and isn't someone I'd want to spend a lot of time with, anyway. That sounds like sour grapes, but I really feel that way. We all place WAY too much emphasis on appearance, which is ultimately going to fade anyway.

There's a saying I've loved for years, it goes..."Appreciate beauty. Invest in character."

He may not know how to change a tire (auto club no doubt), but Niles has class, is a gentleman and knows how to treat a lady.

Exactly, that's what made Daphne fall for him. It wasn't his looks or his money but his attitude and personality. That is one of the reasons I love Niles and Daphne so much. They loved each other for who they were, not who they wanted each other to be.
The Billy Joel song "Just The Way You Are" is a perfect example of Niles' and Daphne's relationship. A "real" man is someone who knows how to treat a woman. Niles is a "real" man.

Yes, he's not a "make me a sammich" kind of guy. He's a candlelights and roses on the table kinda guy. That lucky Daphne! He worships the ground she walks on.

Daphne was very lucky indeed. Everyone should have a "Niles". I know I have found mine.

Me too, although about the only thing he has in common with Niles is they are both male. He loves the show and got me into watching. Oh yes, he did me the way Niles did Daphne. We were working together. After we had been seeing each other awhile, he told me how he would try to smell my perfume, and look at my butt without me catching him. Men! It makes me laugh to see Niles doing that to Daphne. I think it's sweet, and he was smitten from their first meeting.

I don't see Niles a nerd at all; and I'm not just saying that because I think he's adorable! Okay, kind of but he's more like an intellectual. I thought the pairing of Niles and Daphne was just wonderful and when I saw "Something Borrowed Someone Blue" for the first time, I really didn't know much about their relationship at all but I could see the chemistry between them and just fell in love with how sweet they were together. To me a nerd would be someone like Noel but I could see him with someone like Roz.. although I'm sure she couldn't! LOL And if I had my choice of men to put Roz with I'd pick Bulldog. But Niles and Daphne are perfect together!
