Not sure when they started it,perhaps 2 or 3 years ago.And to be fair as most of know the majority of tv stations do this nowadays. Why they do it?Just to add more commercials of course.I think before long American television in general is going to be about 70 percent commercials if it's not there already.

I think it started in early 2009. Likely to gain 30 seconds (give or take a few) more for another commercial since they aren't taking extra time to air the credits.

I hear they show 18 minutes of Commercials for every 17 minutes of programs, which means the number of Commercials shown per hour has SURPASSED THE 50 PERCENT MARK!

There's no way on Earth I'll ever watch anything on Pay-TV these days, it simply isn't worth it!

I know it was after 2006 because i have eps from tv land where the credits wasn't like that. It looks like a copy from what TBS was doing with their shows.

They started crunching the credits in Fall 2005 but they got to be so bad where the don't air that part at all and just put their own fast credits over the show probably sometime within the past year. I hate TV Land.

Most of these stations don't even do a slow fade into commercials anymore. In other words in the past there would be a short pause before the commercial break.Nowadays, they just interupt whatever you're watching often in the middle of someone talking and HIT you with a commercial. Seriously, I do not know how anyone can even watch alot of those stations anymore.I don't care if you record the show or not,so much is cut out. Blame outfits like the FCC for allowing this to happen.

By the way I'm curious does anyone have a reliable link comparing the amount of ads allowed on American television to the amount shown in other countries.I think people would be shocked at how much MORE commercials are allowed on American tv when you compare it to lets say Western European countries television and of course many other countries.

I hate that they do this. Also some channels crunch and run the credits so fast, you have to be a speed reader to read it.

I don't know of such as list, I do know Canada limits Commercials to 12 minutes per hour on their stations. When I lived in Detroit, whenever the Olympic Games were played I would tune into the Station in Windsor, Ontario because their coverage SMOKED NBC's. (I read somewhere NBC actually pondered the idea of making Cable Systems that had access to Canadian TV BLACK OUT their coverage of the 1996 Olympics because in previous Olympics their US Stations along the Canadian Border had low ratings because all the viewers were watching the Canadian Coverage instead. They backed off when a Cable System in the Buffalo/Niagara Falls region threatened a "Constitutional Rights" Legal Battle if they imposed their blackout).

Regulus it is rather surprising that they do not have an accurate list on the net showing how much more ads are on American tv.I could not find anything either. It's almost like tv stations want to keep this information a secret.lol.And yeah who in their right mind would watch NBC otherwise known as 'Nothing But Commercials' not to mention any other American tv station when it comes to something like the Olympics if they can view it on a Canadian station.LESS commercials also= much better coverage.

I took the liberty of recording the Opening and Closing Cerimonies of the 1996 Olympics on BOTH NBC and CBC, the differance was like night and day. The Canadian Coverage had about four less minutes of commercials per hour than NBCs. Also, Hillary Clinton and Al Gore were in the audience, and you couldn't go 15 minutes without seeing them on NBC, while CBC showed them (and the Canadian Prime Minister) ONLY ONCE!

And I'll add, the main reason I've posted so much about the obscene amount of commercials that have taken over American television is because alot of people still believe nonsense put out by tv stations.Nonsense like, 'oh well it takes alot of ads to make a small profit' etc .etc. Or they simply are un aware of the fact that in many other countries, television does not,or are not allowed to treat viewers like idiots or third class citizens.I mean I know it's not going to make much or any of a difference posting on an internet site, but still...

The "Sheeple" blindly plod along and put up with what the Networks put out for them. I decided not to be part of that "Sheeple" Group and pulled out a number of years ago. But Karma has come to the Networks, as they continue to lose viewers, and Pay-TV is losing sunscribers. The Television Industry may very well be making the same mistake the Passenger Railroad and Trans-Oceanic Passenger Ship Industry made after World War II. Both of them brushed aside a little something called the Airplane, and within 20 years both virtually ceased to exist. The CEO of a Railroad Company stated "We made the mistake of believing we were in the Railroad Business when in reality we were in the Transportation Business". Just think, if they had not made that mistake last year Instead of Flying to Rhode Island and Texas on Delta Airlines and Recife, Brazil on TAM Linias Aerias, I may have flown to Rhode Island on Penn Central Airlines, Brazil on Cunard Airlines, and Texas on Union Pacific Airlines!

If you want to watch classic television and the commercials bother you badly, I'd suggest Me-TV or Antenna TV, they don't show many
