Two confusing sides of Frasier

Once there was a man in Boston called Frasier. He loved to go to a local tavern and throw back a few beers with the sports lovers and joke tellers. A place where everybody knew his name - sorry for fitting that in.

Then the man moved to Seattle who refused to drink beer and enjoyed the high-class wine, ballets, and operas.

Then, in season 9 Love Stinks, Frasier throws a party for the blue collar staff of KACL and pretends to be "one of the guys" by posing to like sports and such. Later in this episode, he tells the guys of KACL that they could never be friends because he does not like sports of any type and they don't appreciate opera.

Now in the same season, nine, episode Cheerful Goodbyes, Frasier returns to Boston with Martin, Niles, and Daphne and attends Cliff Claven's retirement, where Frasier walks around holding a beer and laughing and talking with the sports lovers and joke tellers of Cheers.

Having said that, I thought how out of place Niles was in the "Cheers setting". The writers must have had a difficult time trying to write those scenes with Niles surrounded by the Cheers crew. I don't think Niles would have worked out nearly as well if he had been introduced into Cheers. In other words, THANK GOD FOR FRASIER in Seattle !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In fairness though, Frasier Crane WAS Niles on the sitcom Cheers. He eventually developed more as time went on.
