Is It Just Me, Or Did The One Day At A Time Set Look Awfully Familiar??? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Unfortunately, I couldn't find pics of the One Day At A Time Apartment setting, but for fans of this show & Good Times, didn't both apartments look very similar?

I wonder if Norman Lear recycled the set for both to save money???

No I didn't find them to be that similar! The living room and kitchen were in the same places ! But no alcove in Good Times. The bathroom wasn't in the same place. And ODAAT apartment was much nicer too!

Did Good Times have the double doors leading to the bedroom hallway?

The only similarities are the flow from the front door through the living room to the kitchen.

Both series did have a number of episodes just set in the apartments living room and kitchen so that adds to the feel of a similarity.

General ideas may have been reused, but that is more from a theatrical stage tradition than what Lear did on "Good Times" a couple of seasons before ODAAT.

Yeah exactly!

And don't most apartments and houses have the living room and kitchen like that on TV?

Another similarity might be the living room windows in both were to the left as you walked into the apt., except of course in ODAAT the windows were in the alcove.

Also Good times had no dining room . The table was right in the kitchen, where as ODAAT the table was in a dining area with an open wall into the kitchen.
