Disney Re-Releasing Beauty and the Beast, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc. and The Little Mermaid

Throwing open its vault with unprecedented gusto, Disney has announced it will re-release four of its classic animated films in 3D, including two Pixar titles -- Beauty and the Beast, Finding Nemo, Monsters, Inc. and The Little Mermaid.

The sweeping announcement follows the runaway success of the 3D rerelease of The Lion King, which has grossed nearly $100 million worldwide in less than a month.

Today, the re-release jumps the $80 million mark at the domestic box office.

Beauty and the Beast in 3D begins its limited theatrical run on Jan. 13, 2012.

The animated film was first released in 1991.

Pixar's 3D update of Finding Nemo begins Sept. 14, 2012.

It was first released in 2003.

Pixar's Monsters, Inc. in 3D will debut on Jan. 18, 2013. (6 months before prequel Monsters University on June 21)

Monsters, Inc. originally hit theaters in 2001.

The Little Mermaid in 3D goes out on Sept. 13, 2013.

It first hit theaters in 1989.

The release time is better known as the frozen tundra of January studio dumps. Will Beauty and the Beast 3D make as much money as The Lion King 3D, which earned $93 million back in September?
